Attendance Policy Reminder
Attendance Policy Reminder
Student attendance has improved for the first half of the school year. This is just a reminder about the attendance policy according to Senate File 2435:
Chronically absent is defined as ANY absence (excused or unexcused) from school for more than 10% of the days/hours in a grading period.
Family Notification:
Families will be notified when students reach 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% per trimester.
Engagement Meetings
If a child is absent from school for 15% or more days in a trimester, a school official must investigate and set up an engagement meeting. These meetings must include both student and parent/guardian.
Truancy/County Attorney
If a child is considered truant (20%), the school MUST report the information to the county attorney and the county attorney MUST take legal action.
Number of days and equivalent percentage
5% equals 3 days
10% equals 6 days
15% equals 9 days
20% equals 12 days.
Please contact the office if your child will have regular appointments. The district has the local authority to mark these days as exempt to this policy. There will be an adopted list of exemptions adopted by the school board in the future. Please contact Mr. Summy if you have any questions.
