Every child, every day, whatever it takes!
Principal's Message
Sterling families,
Our students and staff are working hard to wrap up the third quarter strong. Here's how you can continue to support your child as a student:
- Ensure your child is well rested for the school day. Children at this age need 10-12 hours of sleep each night.
- Maintain a strong routine at home for bedtime as well as in the morning. This consistency will make the evenings and mornings smooth.
- Encourage strong attendance.
- Ask your child about their school day. They might share their highs and lows for the day, where they felt successful, a challenge they had, and anything else that gives you insight into their day.
- Set your child up to maintain their skills by practicing their reading and math during non-school days. Apps like Lexia, Dreambox, and Reflex are helpful. Families who do not have internet can contact the school for support.
- If there are needs and basic resources such as food, electricity, or anything else contributing to a child or family's well-being that are impacting daily functioning or health, call us. We want to support you. Each of you are very important to us!
Next week's schedule will be different. Students do not have school on Monday or Friday of next week. We will see everyone on Tuesday!
Sincerely,
Jennifer M. Short, Principal

LCPS STUDENT REGISTRATION: 2025-2026
It is time to register your new LCPS student for the 2025-2026 school year! The online pre-registration portal for kindergarteners and students new to LCPS opened Monday, January 6. Current LCPS students do not need to complete this process. The LCPS student registration process involves two steps: online pre-registration and in-person registration appointments. The online pre-registration process includes determining your student’s home school, gathering the documents required for registration and uploading them to the pre-registration portal. Once pre-registration is complete, our registrar, Ms. Martinez, will contact you to schedule a registration appointment. Paper registration forms are also available at our school, or you may download them from the LCPS website. If you have questions, please contact us or LCPS Student Registration at RegistrationServices@lcps.org. See more information about Student Registration on the LCPS website.

ART NEWS
We had a fantastic show at Park View High School for Fine Arts Night on March 26. Artwork from our Sterling jaguars, along with work from all of the other schools in the Park View cluster were on display for the evening. Thank you to all who came to celebrate their artists' accomplishments. I received many compliments about their work! What a great way to end Youth Art Month.

LIBRARY NEWS
March has been a busy month for the library! We began with our Book Fair during the first week of March. We then prepared for our author visit on March 28. Today, we welcomed author and illustrator Ben Hatke to Sterling for the day. He met with all of our students, sharing his writing talents, some of his books, and his plans for an upcoming adventure. We are thankful for this opportunity!
Fourth grade has also been hard at work on a Who Would Win: Founding Fathers Edition. We researched Founding Fathers of the United States, including Virginians George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, George Mason, and James Madison. Students then had to choose a favorite and create a "talking" poster using Wixie. We had a lot of fun learning a new computer skill!

SEARCH NEWS
Our jaguars have been having lots of fun in SEARCH! Kindergarten, first, and second grades enjoyed playing various games with a partner that built upon their spatial insight, planning, problem solving, concentration, and flexible thinking. They enjoyed the productive struggle that the challenges presented. It was such a joy to watch them persevere through each puzzle and see the pride on their faces when they completed a level.
Third grade is in the final stages of completing their district-wide portfolio tasks. I continue to be proud of their efforts and commitment to the given task at hand.
