Principal's Update
Hello Laker Nation!
It was wonderful to see many of our Gretchko grownups at our volunteer training sessions this week. While this is not required for those who would like to volunteer, we hope those who attended found it beneficial as a review of our safety procedures, tips for supporting students, and a tour of our Maker Space. We are so excited to welcome you into the building to volunteer!
- If you have not connected with your child's classroom teacher and would like to volunteer in the classroom, please email the teacher directly.
- If you would like to volunteer during lunch/recess, please email jennifer.teal@wbsd.org.
- If you would like to be a WatchDOG, please email stephanie.donnay@wbsd.org.
- If you would like to volunteer in the Maker Space, please email monica.hammerick@wbsd.org.
This upcoming week is a big one! We are now just one week away from our primary school fundraiser of the year: FunD Run! If you have not registered your child for FunD Run, you can do so here. Then, share your link near and far with friends and family to raise pledges. All money collected supports our PTO-sponsored events throughout the school year! If we reach $25,000 as a whole school by the end of FunD Run, kids will get to celebrate with a GLOW party! If we reach $30,000, we'll be adding inflatables to Field Day! Every dollar counts!
Join us at the track to cheer on all students at the FunD Run on Friday, September 27th. See below for grade-specific run times!
9:25-9:45 2nd grade
9:40-10:00 5th grade
9:55-10:15 Kdg
10:10-10:30 1st grade
10:25-10:45 3rd grade
10:45-11:00 Preschool
11:00-11:20 4th grade
On Friday 9/27 AFTER school, we will also be celebrating the conclusion of our main playground construction with a ribbon cutting ceremony and time to let kiddos play together with friends. Please join us from 4:00-5:30pm!
We have had a few questions about attendance, report cards, or discipline records recently. If you have any questions about your child’s school record or anything else we might be able to help with, please contact our main office anytime at 248-865-6570.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Jen Teal, Principal
Featured Book
Her mom thinks she is too messy; her teachers think she is too loud. But Abuela says that’s nonsense. Mia Emilia Lucia Renata simply has too much wepa! In this case, wepa is a metaphor for Mia's fire, her energy, or what is better known medically as ADHD, and how it's often misunderstood by family and loved ones. Mia tries to bottle up her wepa, but no matter how hard she tries, she can’t contain it. With a bit of inspiration from Abuela and her friends, Mia discovers the perfect place to release her wepa. A place where her wepa is celebrated and isn’t too much.
Traffic Reminder
If you drop off or pick up via car line, please be sure to only use the LEFT lane of our driveway as you enter the school property. Please do not block the right-hand bus lane!

Half goes home so you can celebrate them as well, and the other half gets entered into our Friday drawing. This week's winners are: Gabby Milman, Parker Habba, Lucas Bentley, Dayanna Shada-Pulido, Ajay Warren, Kali Sledge, Nathan Gerak, Asiya Cisic, Gabby Dickinson, Nora Leach, Levi Shammami, Evie Czyzak, Kansas Powell, Demi Smith, Jerney Singleton and Ben Voorhees
