EDGE TEAM
EDGE Team
What age are the dancers in EDGE Team?
Dancers currently in the EDGE program range between 7 to 14 years of age. EDGE dancers are divided into teams based on age and ability. KJ firmly believes in placing kids in groups that are alike in age, yet still challenging, and not frustrating. The goal is to have fun while building upon technique with each dancer. Our goal for the EDGE team is to see some of our oldest current EDGE dancers shining as KJ's Graduating Seniors in the years to come!
Do dancers audition for EDGE Team?
YES! EDGE dancers will audition, and attend the North Texas Summer Dance Intensive. This is a 3-4 day workshop at KJ during the summer. The dates of the intensives are below. If your dancer is interested in auditioning for EDGE, they will need to complete the "intent to Audition" form and register online for one of the summer intensives.

*EDGE auditioning dancers are only required to attend one, of the two intensives.*
What are the weekly requirements for EDGE?
Edge dancers must train in three consecutive classes either on Mondays or Thursdays to be a part of the program. Dancers are required to take ballet, jazz and contemporary classes. Many EDGE dancers take the additional tap or hip hop classes, or an additional ballet class. The minimum for a EDGE dancer is the three hour block of classes on Monday or Thursdays depending on which team they are placed on.
KJ ADMIN will place dancers in their three core classes after the EDGE teams are announced. Dancers may enroll in any additional EDGE classes after they have been accepted into the program. The select technique and select ballet classes are invite only. Dancers will be notified at the beginning of the year if they have been invited to these classes, and will have the option to add them.
Do EDGE dancers compete?
ALL EDGE dancers are required to compete (new this year). EDGE dancers will learn the choreography and perform at the KJ Gala in April (Performance for company dancers only), two competitions in the Spring 2024 and at the end of year concert.
Do EDGE dancers have to take classes in the summer?
Edge dancers are not required to take class in the summer, but are highly encouraged. Summer Classes specific for EDGE dancers only are held in during the summer.
Do EDGE dancers have a team backpack, jacket or team gear?
YES! EDGE dancers are the dancers you see in the studio wearing RED leotards. EDGE dancers also have grey team backpacks, and black EDGE jackets. This team gear is required for each EDGE dancer.
For all other questions, please email the office, and we can set up a time to call and chat with you about this program. As always, the companies at KJ are always growing, expanding, and evolving. We are happy to answer any additional questions you have!
EDGE Mission Statement:
The goal is to prepare our dancers in an accelerated and advanced program. EDGE will be designed to prepare dancers for KJ’s PULSE competitive company program, outside curriculum programs, or advanced continued dance training. Dancers will have the option to participate in two local workshops/competitions and will perform in the KJ Giving Gala in order to experience being part of a team and working toward common goals in a no stress, fun environment. This talented and energetic group of dancers will participate in this program with an accelerated technical curriculum. EDGE dancers learn valuable skills, such as exploring their individual creativity along with working as a team for a common purpose.

The KJ Dance VIRTUAL TRAINING EXPERIENCE was launched in March of 2020 and will continue to be an online educational dance platform available to new and existing students. We are thrilled to serve the DFW area and to have the privilege of training young dancers with integrity. The mission of KJ is to focus on each individual by teaching grace, poise and selflessness. KJ provides a safe nurturing environment where dance is the vessel by which a child can gain self esteem and valuable skills including teamwork and leadership. Our program teaches honesty, integrity, loyalty and dedication through the art of dance. The KJ faculty is committed to keeping standards high and constantly reinventing creative and exciting teaching techniques. Here, students excel in their development as young adults.
