From the Principal
Our students are busier than ever, balancing academics with activities. From Girl's Basketball, Energy Club, Drama, and Chess to Open Gym, there's something for everyone to get involved in and grow outside the classroom. Additionally, we are proud to share that ten of our students will be presenting speeches at Cantigny this Sunday at 1 PM. This is a remarkable opportunity to showcase their hard work, confidence, and creativity, and we couldn't be prouder of their dedication.
Amid this busy season, I want to recognize the incredible hard work of our teachers as they navigate the classroom changes and adjustments that come with meeting the diverse needs of their students. Their commitment to flexibility and creating a positive learning environment is a joy to observe daily. Additionally, with the colder weather, we have allowed students to enter early to ensure everyone stays warm and safe. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prioritize our students' well-being during these chilly and recent rainy mornings.
MAP Testing results coming home
NWEA Winter MAP testing reports will be sent home with students next week by their classroom teacher. These reports provide valuable insights into your child’s academic growth and progress in math and reading. Please review the report and contact your child's teacher with any questions or concerns.
Student Leadership Team
The Student Leadership Team will be doing their Annual Collection Drive for Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans
MSHV asks for new donations as opposed to gently used and to stick with specific items that are listed. We will be collecting for 2 weeks from Monday February 3rd - Friday, February 21st
The classroom in each wing that collects the most donations will receive an ice cream party. We are excited to support this organization and to help make a difference in the lives of many local veterans.

Primary Team News
Mrs. Martinez has been coming into the first grade classrooms for health. We have been learning about GO Foods (carrots, apples....) and WHOA Foods (cookies, ice cream......). They learned this week that half of their meal should be vegetables and fruits.
Intermediate Team Ideas
This week in third grade we started a new reading unit on comparing points of view. Third graders will be analyzing different fairy tales and short stories. In science, students began researching for their animal research project. This week, students in 3/4 Brach learned about themes in literature and practiced determining the theme of a fiction story using text evidence to back up their ideas. Students also learned about the Greek and Latin Roots "bio, viv, and vit" which mean life/live and used these roots to define words. Finally, students practiced determining the text structure of a non-fiction article using text evidence to prove their claim. In 5th grade this week, students began a new reading unit where texts will feature different impacts technology has had on our lives throughout history. They read and analyzed two poems about textile mills and also looked at positive and negative consequences of the cotton gin. In science, students used reasoning to determine the best place for a town to place a well based on how deep above the surface the aquifer would be.
