Happy October Penn Wood family and friends!

We are in the final push to reach our Fall FUNdraiser goal of $22,000, and we need your help. I know there are a lot of requests for your support, and I want to take a moment to remind you about the need here.

Home & School volunteers work hard to plan community-building events and support school requests using the funds you donate. For example, each student receives $15 for assemblies (like the "Forces in Motion" assembly this week) and $15 for field trips. On top of that, we use the money donated for programs like Science Day, Field Day, and the school play. Your donations help us purchase playground and classroom supplies as well as backup clothes for the school nurse. We also provide the green homework folders and appreciation lunches for our teachers. Please thoughtfully consider and send your donation by tomorrow, Friday, October 11 to be eligible for prizes. We look forward to celebrating at the Fall FUNdraiser dance party next Friday during school. The students learned a dance to Katy Perry's "Roar" at our pep rally, and they are excited to show it to the teachers!

Also coming up this Friday, October 11, is our outdoor movie night. It's a family event with free popcorn. $1 candy and water will be available, and the Plum Pit food truck will be on site. Students will vote on the movie this week - stay tuned!

Our first Home & School meeting is tonight (October 10) at 6 p.m., and all are welcome. New this year - come early at 5:30 p.m. to chat with our President, Danielle Chamness, and our President-Elect, Sabrina Quinn. This is a more casual time for questions and feedback, and a great time to learn how to get more involved.

A big thank you to everyone who has donated to the Fall FUNdraiser already! We are almost to our goal! Tomorrow, Friday, October 11, is the deadline to donate and have your child(ren) receive prizes. No donation is too small as every amount wins your student a prize and helps our school.

We can't wait to celebrate with the students at our dance party next Friday, October 18 during school. Our dance this year is to Katy Perry's "Roar" so feel free to have your student wear animal print that day.

Grab your chair and blanket, and join us tomorrow night, Friday, October 11, for a movie under the stars!

The event will start @ 5:30 p.m. and the movie will start @ 6:30 p.m. (sunset). Additional details can be found below.

• Outdoor Lunch*: Please consider volunteering for outdoor lunch duty so that the students can continue to go outside for some extra fresh air and sunshine. We will continue to take students outside as long as, and whenever, we have nice weather days. If you have your clearances and you are interested, you can sign up HERE. If there is inclement weather and lunch will not be held outside, you will be notified by Kelly Nolan. You can also reach out to her with any questions at kellypurvis@gmail.com or via text at 215-620-6135. You will receive an email from Kelly Nolan with instructions once you sign up for Outdoor Lunch. Thank you!

• School Store*: The PWE School Store will be open Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school (8:30-9 a.m.). We set up in between the cafeteria and gym and sell everything from school supplies (crayons, folders, erasers) to fun things (keychains, bookmarks, squeeze balls, bendable pencils) to PWE gear (stickers, bracelets, maybe more to come!). Please consider signing up – it’s quick (30 min), your kid(s) will LOVE helping you run it, and the PWE students really enjoy shopping. Sign up HERE! Volunteer clearances are required. • Penn Wood Chocolate Bowl: Our Penn Wood teachers and staff enjoy a chocolate treat, mints, and even hard candy every so often. Home & School started a bowl of chocolate in 2020 and we would like to keep this going. If you would like to send a big bag or two of individually wrapped candies, please sign up HERE. It doesn't have to be the exact date you signed up for, but that week would be great. You can send candy in with your student and label the bag "Penn Wood Chocolate Bowl" or drop off to the main office. There are about 60 staff members.

• Classroom Party Sign Up*: Let's party! The SignUpGenius for Classroom Parties opened on October 6th for volunteers. Please read the guidelines in the link before signing up and thanks in advance for helping our students and teachers celebrate! Grab lunch or dinner from Lo Piccolo's on Thursday, October 24. 15% of your purchase will be donated back to our school if you mention "Penn Wood!"

Don’t forget to download the Box Tops for Education app (Apple or Android) and select Penn Wood Elementary as your recipient. The app makes it easy to scan receipts and help the school earn money! If you link your Walmart account, you earn a $5 bonus and every time you shop, Penn Wood will be credited automatically without a need to scan a receipt.
