These young men can be very proud of themselves as they have made great progress over the year in their reading. They enjoyed a lovely pizza lunch as a reward for all their hard work.
A visit to the Library from Alan Dingley
On Thursday 28 November we were lucky to be visited by the National Library’s Te Awhi Rito Reading Ambassador Alan Dingley. He spoke to two different groups of students about his own reading journey. Alan spoke of the importance of having reading role models in your life. If no one in your whānau
reads, then become that role model at home.
The students were then read the book "Brain Is Not Always Right" to them. Each session finished off with time for questions and answers. Students rounded off each session with a thanks to Alan for coming and speaking to them.

FOOD TECHNOLOGY - Year 10 Dessert Competition
In the last week of the school year, the Year 10 food Technology class held its final of the Bi-annual Dessert Competition. The boys worked over a month perfecting their skills to produce a dessert for Mrs Bradley.
All the entrees were excellent, but there can only be one winner, and it was the Biscoff Cheesecake made by Ethan Orr, Agashi Matsue and Harlem Bartlett, which received 20/20 points from our judge.

Business Studies
On Friday 22 November our Year 9 Business Studies class were visited by ASB Bank Managers, Graeme and Lisa. They came and shared their knowledge on banking, careers and scammers with the boys. We learnt some useful details on credit and debit cards, mortgages, loans, growing wealth through investment, and Kiwisaver. Our boys asked lots of good questions and were rewarded with some healthy kai, financial wellbeing workbooks, and a greater appreciation of saving and spending wisely. Thanks very much to Graeme Jensen, ASB Regional Rural Manager, and Lisa Papuni, People and Culture Manager.

GENERAL NEWS
Building Academy Houses Moved
It was an exciting day this week when our two houses which have been constructed by the HBHS Building Academy were transported off the school grounds. They are headed to a new housing development in Waipukurau. We are sure there will be two very happy families in the very near future who will be living in these lovely houses.
Mr Oli and the Manu Competition
Mr Oli who was on the Hastings District Council before he came to work at Hastings Boys' High School was part of the Committee/Community team that brought to life the 'Manu Bomb' competition in Havelock Village pools. Since its recent success and popularity amongst our communities. Hastings council has made this an annual event which 2024 will be its 3rd consecutive year.
Mr Oli was requested to take a few students to be part of this years promotional video.
They shot the video for an hour at the Havelock North Village Pool.
Mr Dentice and his World Famous Steak
After more than 40 years at Hastings Boys' High School Mr Allan Dentice fully retires and with his wife Margaret will move to live in Ashhurst which will mean living closer to their daughter and her family.
For many years now Mr Dentice has been responsible for the steaks that are on offer to the staff at their end of year function on the last day of Term 4. These steaks are fabled to be the best ever and are absolutely delicious and are something the staff really look forward to.
Here he is preparing the marinade for them. They sit in the marinade and absorb all the flavours and are then flame grilled on the BBQ. The recipe is a closely guarded secret - although I have a feeling the ladies in the canteen may have been looking over his shoulder at what ingredients he was using!
