Sunday Message from Mr. Burns

Hi Wims Families,

Happy 2025! When I was in elementary school, I remember thinking that when the year 2025 came around, we would be in flying cars and utilizing transporters (like in Star Trek)😀 I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break. It was great to see the students return with smiles on their faces.

As I write this message, MCPS has announced that school will be canceled tomorrow. We will see what the rest of the week will look like.

Enjoy the snow day tomorrow! I look forward to greeting the students whenever we return to school:)

Happy New Year, Wildcats!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, spent time with family and friends, and took a nice break! There were definitely some moans and groans in our house on Thursday morning!

As we all try to get back into our normal routines, there are some important dates and deadlines coming up this month for you to be aware of.

Is your family interested in hosting a table at Multicultural Night on Jan. 24? Is your student interested in participating in the fashion show? The deadline to sign up is on Friday, Jan. 10! Please complete this interest form for both table presentations and the fashion show BY FRIDAY.

Please save the date for our January PTA Meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14! We have pushed the meeting ahead one week this month due to schedule conflicts. More information as well as the Zoom link will be shared in next week’s Sunday Message.

Finally, the deadline to sign up for our Wilson Wims Spelling Bee (taking place during the school day on Wed., Feb. 19) is also around the corner! Interested students in grades 3-5 must register by Jan. 19 to participate in the Spelling Bee. Please do not delay, as we are unable to accept late submissions! More information is shared below for all upcoming events.

• Thursday: Pottery (Pop Art Icons!) by Mudskippers Pottery - REGISTER HERE

• Friday: STEM Sports by Overtime Athletics - REGISTER HERE OR You Too Can Sew (Grades 3-5) with Ms. Glassic - Please EMAIL sewgeniusnow@gmail.com to reserve your spot.

Programs will start the week of 1/13 and each does have an associated cost in line with the length of the program. Times and length vary slightly between programs, so please be sure to check your registration. Don’t forget to notify your child’s teacher as to which day(s) they will be attending an after-school program! If you have any questions about after-school programming, please contact Katie or Danni.

Thanks to the success of our recent Dave & Buster’s PowerCard fundraiser, the PTA is pleased to share that limited funds are now available to support families with a student interested in an after-school program, but lacking sufficient funds for the registration fee. Please contact Mr. Burns for more information on how to be selected for a scholarship.

Multicultural Night is a special evening where we celebrate our diverse Wildcat Community through cultural enlightenment including foods, art, artifacts, and a fabulous fashion show! We are looking for families that are interested in hosting a table as well as students to participate in the fashion show. The hosting family is responsible for all items and displays. A table and cover will be provided. If you would like to showcase your family’s culture, or if your student(s) would like to participate in the fashion show, please complete this interest from no later than January 10. Please note that families who wish to feature the same country may be grouped together. Volunteers are needed for this event. Please sign up here to volunteer! Calling all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders interested in participating in our Wilson Wims Spelling Bee! The bee takes place during the school day and a schedule will be provided to the families of registered students closer to the event. The 5th grade winner will move on to compete in the Regional Bee, date TBD. If your student is interested in participating, please complete this interest form no later than January 19 (one form per student, please). The word list will be sent via email after the 19th. Please don’t delay in registering - due to bee logistics, we are unable to accept late submissions once the deadline has passed.

Our Yearbook Committee needs your help! Please share your photos from our events - Movie Night, Fun Run, PRIDE Assemblies, and more. We would also love your first day of school photos, photos of our patrols, and getting to & from school each day. Our Lifetouch upload link is now live. Simply go to this link to upload and you just might see your photos featured in the yearbook! Please remember to TAG when uploading photos, as this will make it easier for our committee to sort. If you are not sure which tag to use, just label the picture with the student’s grade level/ teacher. Thank you in advance for contributing to our Wims yearbook!
