From the Principal:
Dear St. Bernard Families,
Happy Feast of St. Matthias!
While the end is so near, there is still so much to do…
First, I’d like to share a short reflection on the First Reading from Mass today. The Reading comes from Acts 1 and tells the story of the selection of Matthias as an Apostle - replacing Judas the betrayer. There is something simple and beautiful about it - I think it is deserving of our meditation. Peter says that they need to choose someone and then within moments they’ve made a very important decision… How can this be? For so many of us, decisions of this magnitude can be very difficult. Well, first the Apostles used their reason (and their knowledge of the Scriptures) to determine that the person should be someone who “accompanied us the whole time” - that is, they narrowed down the choices with reasonable and prudent criteria. Then, they PRAYED. And finally, they entrusted it to the Holy Spirit and drew lots. Perhaps many today would say that that is imprudent and leaving too much to “chance,” but if we lay the groundwork with reason and prayer perhaps it’s the exact risk we should take. It seems so simple… Maybe it’s us who tend to complicate things, and God actually invites us to simplify. Perhaps that’s why the Holy Spirit chose “Matthias” instead of “Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus.”
Thanks to all who helped us with another very successful Olympic Day and Boosterthon Fundraiser. We raised over $22,000 this year! May God bless our many volunteers and generous donors!
iReady scores were sent home today. Please take some time to review these. This is just one data point for your child and should not be considered the end-all-be-all for your child. If you have any questions about these scores and the interpretation of the data please reach out to Mrs. Murphy - murphy@stbernardtc.org
Stop what you are doing! And buy your tickets for the St. Bernard Players Spring Production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. We have nearly 50 students participating in the show this year and they have been working very hard. Please reward their hard work and support the drama department at St. Bernard by coming to one (at least) of the shows this week! The premier is tomorrow at 7pm, followed by a Friday Show at 7pm and a Saturday show at 1pm. Tickets | St Bernard School - Drama
I have yet another staffing update… Our 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher (Miss Rice) has decided not to return to St. Bernard for next School Year. She will be greatly missed by the entire student body and her colleagues here. We wish Miss Rice the best and say “Thank you!” for all you’ve done for us these past two years! So with that, we are now looking for a Middle School Science Teacher! If you know anyone who would be a good fit for either this position or our open 2nd Grade position, please direct them to me.
In other news (and perhaps you’ve heard)... Mrs. Gonya safely delivered her healthy baby boy on Thursday, May 1 at 2:41 in the afternoon. Leon Robert and mom are happy and healthy (dad is fine too :). Thanks to all those who have prayed for and supported Mrs. Gonya throughout her pregnancy!
Please pray for our 8th Graders who have just 2 days of school remaining. The transition to High School is a big jump and we want to send them off with prayer and God’s graces. The Graduation Mass and ceremony will be next Wednesday evening. May God bless the St. Bernard Class of 2025!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ertel
From the Office:

IMPORTANT: EDCHOICE REQUIREMENTS
Our school has 175 scholarships awarded for the 2024-25 school year. There are two important steps that I need parents to complete in order for the school to receive scholarship funds to cover tuition costs:
- For each awarded EdChoice scholarship, I must have an Acceptance Form signed and turned in at the office. Nearly everyone has signed and returned them. If you have not already, please contact me in the school office. Thank you!
- Please follow the LINK to authorize St. Bernard School to deposit funds from the scholarship checks to pay for tuition. The Ohio Department of Education issues scholarship checks on a monthly basis which require this permission to be deposited. Please take care of this immediately if you have not already. Again, most of you took care of this. Thank you!
Please contact me in the school office if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Yours in Christ,
Kenny Glassmeyer, Office Manager
