STEP 1: https://www.philasd.org/research/programsservices/district-wide-surveys/
This year, Academy at Palumbo, along with dozens of other high schools in Philadelphia, participated in the "Philly Service Award" Project. The goal of the project was to fund initiatives schools came up with around the city to serve their community.
At Palumbo, we partnered with the Athletics Department, Palumbo Recreation Center, the student led Medical Club, our school nurse, and our Videography Club to provide first aid kits and training to over 50 kids in the community at the rec center. We are now in the running win $20,000 to support our school community.
Voting is now open, and we need your support to vote for Palumbo daily until 4/30! You can view our video and vote here: https://phillyserviceaward.us.launchpad6.com/Peopleschoiceaward
Please share on your social media with your networks and friends. Additionally, view the great work other high school's also completed this year!

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week in May
The annual National Teacher Appreciation Week for 2024 is May 6 - 10. We have launched a Teacher and Staff Appreciation GoFundMe to
support our amazing teachers and staff! We will use the funds raised to celebrate our teachers and staff with a breakfast/coffee, luncheon, and other tokens of appreciation, if funding permits, throughout the week.
Help us show how much we value our teachers and staff by donating to our Teacher and Staff Appreciation GoFundMe. Thank you for your support!
DonorsChoose Fundraiser for Calculators
Math teacher Mr. Kirby has set up a DonorsChoose to fundraise for calculators to support over 165 students. Please visit his fundraising page to learn more and to make a donation. Mr. Kirby will only receive his materials if this project is fully funded by May 1.
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS
WEEKLY SHOUT-OUTS!
- To Ms. Wang & Ms. Sundeen for organizing a great Spring Fling for the 9th & 10th graders! A great time was had by all, and the drink server made it a point to express how well behaved our students were, and that there was not one who didn't say "thank you". That compliment goes a long way, so shout out to our parents & caregivers as well for the amazing children you're raising!
- To Ms. Sundeen for her work with Speech & Debate. Check out the thank you video that was shared from the National Speech & Debate Association!
GOOD NEWS!!!
What an amazing day Palumbo’s students had at Generation Citizen’s Philadelphia Civics Day! Community Advisors awarded their project on Vaping in Teens with the Grassroots Change award, for clearly and compellingly articulating why their focus issues matters to them and their community; and the project on Drug Addiction being given the Action award, utilizing a variety of tactics to engage their targets and showing considerable thoughtfulness and attention to quality in completing their actions.
Aya Bousseloub for delived a powerful speech during the Opening Ceremonies as the Generation Citizen Philadelphia Student Changemaker! Aya’s words moved the audience deeply, and her commitment to justice, elevating student voices, and equity for all were evidenced in her words on stage and in her group’s presentation to Community Advisors. Thank you to Mr. McGeehan for all of his efforts in increasing civic engagement among students!
SPRING FORMALS
Spring Dance/Prom season is among us! We will be hosting the Spring Fling for grades 9&10, the Junior Prom for grade 11 and Senior Prom for Grade 12. Tickets are currently on sale for all events. See the class' Google Classroom for detailed information on each event.
No Swipe Fees
We have been experiencing rampant instances of students bypassing safety and attendance protocols by entering school without their school ID card, therefore not swiping in, or manually entering their ID number. Our Student/Parent Handbook states: Students are required to carry their school ID card at all times. Students must use their ID to swipe in upon entering each morning. The student is charged $1.00 each time they do not have their ID card. If an ID card is lost or destroyed, the cost is $5.00 to replace. Requests for new/replacement ID cards must be made at the Dean’s Office, room 302.
Students were given letters on Thursday that tell them how much they have accumulated in fees from November - February. Amnesty has been given to all students who owe less than $5.00. If there is a financial hardship, please contact Ms. Thompson klthompson@philasd.org, or Ms. Stamps rnstamps@philasd.org to discuss payment arrangements.
Students will risk ineligibility to participate in activities if their account paid, and charges will continue to be added until the end of the year. Seniors will not receive their diploma if there are outstanding charges on their student account. We have found that strict enforcement of this rule is necessary in having all students comply for the safety of the entire school community. We do not want to be in a situation where trespassers are in the building, or we cannot account for all students in the case of an emergency.
Thank you in advance for reinforcing the importance if this to your student(s ).

Important - Medical Forms need updating
There are two medical forms that need yearly updating for all students. If you have not already done so, please complete the medical information form and the med-1 form which allows our nurse to administer medication to students while in school.
If your student tests positive for Covid, the reporting form can be found here as well.
Please contact nurse Stevens at cstevens@philasd.org if you have questions.
