Los Dichos Program
Our 2nd graders are loving the new Los Dichos program, led by a wonderful group of Latinx parents! This initiative celebrates diversity, multiculturalism, and multilingualism, creating meaningful connections through culture.
Students enjoy listening to bilingual (English-Spanish) stories read by parent volunteers, followed by engaging activities inspired by the books. They also explore cultural stations featuring traditions like sayings, food, and music from various Latin American countries.
Santa Rita second graders are diving back into their identity maps after winter break! Starting earlier this year, these maps capture their unique social and personal identifiers.
These students have loved adding new details about the people they love, the places they’ve visited, their favorite things, and the holidays or traditions they celebrate.
This activity not only sparked creativity and meaningful sharing but also inspired ideas for opinion writing using Beth Puma’s "spicy salsa" talk strategy! What a fantastic way to celebrate individuality and connection!

LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Santa Rita Families,
Happy New Year! Thank you to the Santa Rita PTA for your generous donation to the Santa Rita Assembly Program. We have offered a wonderful array of experiences for our students this year. If you have not made your donation to the Santa Rita PTA, please consider doing so. We would like to secure funding for assemblies for next year.
Growth Mindset Assembly (November)
San Francisco Opera (December)
Lunar New Year Celebration Assembly (January)
Thank you to the Los Altos Educational Foundation for your support of our Physical Education Program. LASD PE teachers help prepare students for the Junior Olympics.
This annual, fun-filled, all-inclusive, inter-school track meet celebrates over 50 years of physical education in LASD. 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from all seven district elementary schools will compete this year on April 26th in both traditional and nontraditional track and field events. Parents, friends, students in other grades, family members, and teachers are invited to attend the event and cheer on the schools. If you have not made your donation yet to LAEF, please consider doing so.

Well, all you have to do is click and follow along! Join us on our journey!
Opt in for Text Messages in Case of an Emergency
In the event of a major earthquake or windstorm or even more rain..... we can assume that electricity and wifi may go down as it did a few weeks ago. Therefore, we will use our SMS system to communicate with the community. Essentially a text messaging system that goes directly to your cell phone, SMS requires parents to opt into it to receive texts from the school. We also use the SMS system to send occasional reminders (like on minimum-day dismissals).
You can participate in this free service (standard message and data rates may apply) just by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587. You can also opt out of these messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”.
Santa Rita STEM Expo
Santa Rita STEM Expo invites students in grades TK-6 to participate! While engaging in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) projects, students will have an opportunity to design hands-on projects while exploring just how fun STEM can be! This event lends itself to a myriad of learning experiences: within the class or at home, working individually or collaboratively with peers or with adults, and amongst a wide range of STEM categories including: Rube Goldberg, Invention, Engineering (Reverse), Engineering (Robotics), Scientific Inquiry, and Wearable Designs. Ultimately, students will get a chance to showcase their STEM work in a fun and unique venue, with learning opportunities for the entire family. Santa Rita will be hosting the STEM Expo evening showcase on 02/26/25 from 5:30pm - 6:30pm.
State Testing Attendance
All 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Graders Need to be at School for State Testing!
The formal State Testing (CAASPP) window will be April 21 - May 9. All 3rd-6th graders will be testing. It is very important that all students are present during testing times. If a student is absent, s/he will have to make up the test (missing important classroom instruction). In addition, make-ups are logistically difficult to administer. If you already know of appointments scheduled during testing times, please reschedule them so that everyone is present for testing.
Gift Card Donations
The Santa Rita front office was able to provide gift cards to families in need during the holiday season. We have depleted our reserve stock of gift cards. If you are able to donate a gift card that would be greatly appreciated. Please drop off your donation to our front desk. Thank you!
