Dear parents and carers.
We have had a fantastic week at Kirk Fenton. There has been a real buzz around school, and I have seen some great learning in classrooms. A particular highlight has been the number of children who have brought their work to show me, full of pride at what they have done. I was also so pleased to have children in two different classrooms ask me to look at their friend's work, as they thought it needed celebrating. What a lovely thing to do!
Year four have had a particularly busy week. On Tuesday they went to the Education Exchange Centre in Knottingley to take part in our MAT 'Great Science Share' event. This is a nationwide, annual campaign designed to inspire 5-14 year olds to take the lead in asking, investigating and sharing scientific questions. This year children had to investigate a physics discovery and showcase why they believe it is the best physics discovery of all time. Year four had chosen radiation, and clearly did a fantastic job as we were the winning school! It was great to spend the afternoon with children from all nine of our primary schools and for them all to have the opportunity to present to each other.
On Thursday, a team of year four cricketers spent the day at Church Fenton Cricket Club, taking part in a MAT Kwik Cricket competition, again with teams from all of the MAT primaries. It is lovely to be able to use the village cricket club grounds to do this, and the children really enjoyed their day of sport. (They also came first!)
We are really looking forward to next week's Sports Day on Thursday afternoon. Hopefully the letter emailed out last week gave you all the information you need, but please do get in touch if you have any questions. Hopefully summer will arrive and the sun will shine.
As you all know, one of the reasons that I did not apply for the permanent headteacher role at Kirk Fenton, was the fact that I would like to get some experience working in other schools. An opening came up recently for a deputy headteacher on secondment at another, bigger, MAT school, and I was successful in getting the role following an interview last week. Although it will be incredibly difficult to leave such an amazing school community, where I have been so happy, it is a perfect opportunity to get the experience I am looking for. Kirk Fenton is a very special place, and I have been so lucky to work here for such a long time and to be part of such a kind and caring school and local community. Mrs Bembridge will continue in her role as acting deputy headteacher, and we will both be meeting with Mrs Walmsley regularly over the next few weeks so that she is ready to take over in September.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
