Please reach out to Mr. Gravina (vgravina@woodburysch.com), the director of curriculum and instruction, with any questions or concerns.
All other junior high and high school students will be receiving additional scheduling information in the next few weeks.

Teacher Quarantine Features From Home
Mr. Doud – Video Art Design
Across all sections of Video Art Design, students have been voting on various categories for the upcoming 'digital' VADAs (Video Art Design Awards). They are voting on all best work from the projects completed this year. Students are backing up their vote with a critique/analysis their choice. Voting will be open to Staff in the coming weeks. My wife, daughter and I also revealed the gender of our second baby on the way... IT'S A BOY!!! 🙂
Mrs. Emenecker’s 7th Grade Literacy Class
Students in Mrs. Emenecker's 7th grade Literacy class are finishing reading The Hunger Games and working on writing text dependent responses. This week they focused on character analysis. Students met for mini-lessons about pulling evidence from the text to demonstrate different character traits.
Lynette Lewis – Propel America Program
I shared a couple of weeks ago (as a feature in the newsletter) that we had senior students preparing to go through the interviewing process with Propel. As a result, I am proud to announce that we have 4 students moving on to Propel specialization in the area of CMA (Certified Medical Assistant). During specialization as Propel fellow students, they will undergo training and education at no expense plus receive a computer along with a monthly stipend to support their needs during their time of training. It has been an amazing journey for our students and I! I know that our students will take full advantage of the opportunity they have been presented. I truly wish them the best! This is a proud HERD moment!
Congratulations to Najira Cole, Jada Smith, Markayla Wade, and Amanda Vega! I am so proud of these ladies!
Mr. O’Leary’s Literacy Class
Following up on Mr. O’Leary’s feature last week, he has been doing screencast videos for each chapter of the novel Hatchet by Gary Paulsen as his students are reading it for their literacy assignments. Outsiders have been watching the screencasts as well. The picture shows a message from a man in Virginia who has been using them to work with his grandson and nephew. It’s a great feeling to be able to help others during quarantine.
Social Studies with Mr. Sheppard
During this lesson, 6th grade students had to decide how Alexander the Great should be remembered, as a Hero or Villain. Their decision was based on a variety of sources that they examined over the past few days. In this lesson they had to pretend they were designing a museum exhibit on Alexander the Great and they had to make a decision about where his statue belonged (in the Hero Wing or Villain Wing). Finally, they had to use evidence from the sources they examined to defend their decision as to where the statue should be placed.

How is your adjustment to remote learning going?
I think I’ve been adjusting pretty well. A good chunk of my traditional class work was done independently so that isn’t something I am not used to.
What is the hardest thing about this adjustment? What is one aspect that you enjoy more than traditional school?
The hardest part has been staying in my house. I never thought I would miss being in the school building so much. The part that I enjoy the most though is that I can sleep in an extra hour or two before starting my work for the day.
What are you doing to keep busy when your school work is finished?
If I am done with my work when my dad comes home, we try to clean and straighten up the garage and the basement.
What college(s) have you been accepted to, and where are you choosing to go?
I have been accepted to Ursinus College, Albright College, Randolph-Macon College, Ramapo College, and Hood College. I am deciding to go to Hood College.
What will be your course of study?
I will be majoring in Computer Science.
What is one message you would like to share with your fellow seniors at Woodbury High School?
After we leave Woodbury, they’re going to remember the class of 2020 so as you’re making memories after high school, remember the ones you had here too.
