Dear Parents,

I hope you and your family were able to enjoy a fun and relaxing summer. It's been a strange one for sure! I can honestly say that I never imagined in all of my years of teaching that we'd be in the circumstances in which we find ourselves, but WOW...here we are! I am so looking forward to getting back to a little bit of "normalcy," and as parents, I'm sure you are too.

In this newsletter you will find lots of information about our class this year. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email at jewilliams@lakefentonschools.org. This is new territory for me as a teacher and as many of you can certainly relate, I'm finding myself re-inventing what I've come to know so well in this brand new landscape. So as we navigate through the uncertain next few weeks and months ahead, I can't promise you that I have every answer, but please know that I am here to work with you and address any concerns you might have. We will figure it out! Above all else, please know that your child's well-being and growth as a learner are my top priorities. I thank you for entrusting me with his/her learning this year.

Aug. 31: First Day of School, Day begins at 9:15 a.m.

Sept. 4/7: No Classes, Labor Day Weekend

Sept. 14: Blended learning schedule begins

Nov. 3: No Classes, Professional Development

Nov. 4-5: Parent/Teacher Conferences

Remote learning will take place for the first two weeks of school beginning Monday, August 31. Our class will meet via Google Meet at the link below. This link is also available on our Google Classroom. Students will log on with video but with a muted mic. If there are any issues logging on, please send me an email at jewilliams@lakefentonschools.org.

We will begin class at 9:15 a.m. Students will need to sit in a quiet spot, free from distractions with a notebook and pencil. We will have live learning from 9:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. with breaks for a snack, restroom and movement. Then in the afternoon we will be live from 12:15 p.m.- 1:40 p.m. with breaks.

After that, class will begin each day at 9:15 a.m. with a quick morning meeting. I expect there may be some glitches along the way so I appreciate your patience and flexibility as we get things going!

Our first days will be a "soft opening," which means we'll be spending time learning routines, becoming familiar with online platforms, getting to know one another, and establishing classroom culture. I anticipate getting into more academics during our second week together.

Please complete the Parent Survey linked below and have your 4th Grader log on to his/her Chromebook to complete the Student Survey. The Student Survey is also linked on our Google Classroom.

Students may log onto their Google Classroom by accessing the app on their Chromebook or by visiting www.classroom.google.com. Our 4th Grade Homeroom has already been added for your student. For any questions about Torrey Hill Technology including logging onto Google Classroom for the first time, please see the Tech Guide linked below.

Please email me a baby or toddler picture of your 4th grader. These photos will be on display on our classroom birthdays bullentin board and we'll also use for a guessing game. Please send by Friday, September 11th. Thanks for your help!
