RCS Welcomes New Staff
RCS Welcomes New Staff
With the start of the new school year, the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District welcomed some new faces this week. The District held a new teacher orientation to welcome 18 teachers to the District this past Tuesday and Wednesday. Some of those who attended orientation joined us mid-year during the 2023-24 school year and others will be joining us for their first full year next week. Our new teachers met principals and staff, participated in professional development, got an opportunity to find their classrooms, and were given a bus tour of the District. Check out the photos from their first day!
Middle School Assistant Principal
At the Middle School, RCS welcomed Brian Garrity as our new middle school assistant principal. Mr. Garrity is joining us from HFM BOCES where he served as an assistant principal for four years and an English and Social Studies teacher for six and a half years. He grew up on Long Island where he attended Molloy College. After obtaining his Masters from Johns Hopkins University, he began his teaching career in Baltimore, teaching English for five years. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his three children and two dogs, vacationing with them in Maine, gardening, and is an avid sports fan. He is very excited to be continuing his career with RCS!
High School Assistant Principal
RCS High School will start the year with an interim assistant principal from September through early December 2024. Mr. John Thorsen will replace our outgoing assistant principal, Mr. Tedford, while the district conducts a thorough search. Mr. Thorsen was previously the principal at Chatham High School for 16 years and was also an assistant principal for 7 years. He has also coached basketball for 20 years and football for 3 years. Mr. Thorsen will start on August 29th and we are very excited to have him share his wealth of experience with us!
A.W. Becker Principal
Mr. Steve Doran, our former middle school assistant principal, began his work as the Principal of A.W. Becker Elementary this past July. Mr. Doran sent out his first welcome-back letter this week introducing himself to A.W. Becker families and has been meeting with his new staff.
If you see any of our new faces on the first day of school make sure to give them an RCS Welcome!
