Sawnee Elementary
December 2024
A Note from Mrs. Davis
Dear Sawnee Families,
We hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving Break and took time to rest, relax, and rejuvenate. At Sawnee, we are certainly grateful for our community. This is such a special place to be!
This month, we will be celebrating International Night on December 10th. If you would like to provide information about your heritage, please sign up using the link below. We will have tables set up outside the cafeteria for your displays. This will be in conjunction with the performance of our Sawnee Singers. A special thank you to Mrs. Turner for her hard work supporting our chorus. Our students do such an amazing job and we are so proud of them!
December 12th is a busy day at Sawnee for food! In the cafeterias, we will have our holiday meal, which is a great day to join your child for lunch. Please remember no pictures or videos during lunch. Use this time to talk with your student about all the amazing things happening at Sawnee. Thinking about connecting, be sure to fill out the Family Unplugged Night board for December to enter into the raffle for your child's name to be drawn on the news and win a fun, family game. The choice board will be sent home by your child's teacher on December 2nd. Can't wait? The board is linked in this newsletter. December 11th is also our Moe's Night sponsored by our PTO. Click here to reserve your dinner box(es). I know this night makes it easier for my family!
December makes us think of giving to others. If you would like to donate to a family in need, please reach out to one of our counselors for suggestions and contacts. They are happy to assist you in making sure your donations support our Forsyth families. Their contact information is below or on our website.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to give feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us. It is a pleasure to work with all of our families.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Davis
Principal

Digital Citizenship
December’s Digital Citizenship lesson centers around Digital World Safety. In lower elementary we focus on visiting safe sites, protecting our information, and only interacting with people we’ve met in person while online. Since children under 13 should NOT be on social media, the primary place they’ll encounter strangers is while playing video games. These lessons stress the importance of never making plans to meet up with someone they meet online, and if approached by a stranger online, they need to find a trusted adult. If you’d like to continue the conversation at home, we’ve listed some discussion questions below:
- What are some important rules about passwords? Let’s practice making a strong password together.
- Do you understand why you shouldn’t have a social media account before you are 13 years old? Let’s discuss that.
- Do you personally know everyone you play games with online? Has anyone ever tried to connect with you online that you did not know?
- Do you feel safe coming to me with anything you see that might be inappropriate? Why or why not?

Harvest of the Month
Lettuce
Lettuce is December’s Harvest of the Month. Did you know that lettuce was originally farmed by the ancient Egyptians? Lettuce has many health benefits and is low in calories. Lettuce contains Vitamin C, which treats cardiovascular disease. It is also a good source of vitamin K, which helps with blood clotting and bone health.
