On Veterans Day, all of us at Northwest Indiana Online School want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the brave veterans who have served our country. Thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and dedication to keeping us safe. Your commitment inspires us and teaches us the true meaning of bravery and patriotism.
To those in uniform serving today and to those who have served in the past, we honor you today and every day. To all who have put their lives on the line in defense of our nation, thank you.
Students in Grades 3 - 8: Our next ILEARN Checkpoint is Tuesday, November 19
On November 19, 2024, students in grades 3 -8 will take the ILEARN Checkpoint #2. Students in 3rd - 8th grade have the option to take the test remotely from home or in-person.

- You will also find information about attending the PCCTC open house to learn more about their CTE options.
- Programs available can be found here: https://pccte.org/programs/
- Students may choose from several different pathways that provide a wonderful opportunity to explore careers, earn college credit, earn industry-recognized certifications, gain entry-level positions, and boost academic skills at the same time.
- Students complete an enrollment form to be considered: LINK TO ENROLLMENT FORM.
- Students are encouraged to list backup choices to help ensure a placement. Spots are limited.
- Applying on time is one factor for a successful application.
- Students also have the opportunity to visit our website at pccte.org and to reach out to teachers for information.
- Online CTE applications are open now, and they are due on or before Feb. 1, 2025.
A couple of tips when filling out the application:
- Expect CTE classes to be an in-person class.
- The enrollment form for all countywide CTE programs is open, with a priority deadline of Feb. 1, 2025.
- When completing the application, make sure to use use correct grammar and spelling.
- It is important to only capitalize the first letter only of your name, street name, city, state, and other proper nouns.
- Failure to complete the form thoroughly could result in a delay of acceptance into a program.
- Check over your work. If you complete the application successfully, you will receive an email showing the information you have entered.

THE NATURALIZATION EXAM--Requirement for Seniors
Indiana Code 20-30-5-7 requires public Indiana high schools to administer the naturalization examination, provided by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), to each student enrolled in a U.S. Government course where credit is awarded for General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors, or Core 40 with Technical Honors designation.
Test Materials and Process:
General information regarding the naturalization examination can be found here. Students will participate in the naturalization examination, which contains 100 items. Students participating in the naturalization examination complete 20 of the 100 items. A student score of 60% (12/20) is considered passing on the student’s first attempt.
To help NWIOS students get ready for the assessment, Mr. Chris Richardson, DSC teacher, will hold two study sessions. Students may choose to attend in person or virtually. In-person study tables will take place at Duneland School Corporation's ANNEX Building 411 S 10th Street, Chesterton IN 46304

- Monday, November 25 - 1:15 - 1:45 pm
Testing Day!

THE TROJAN LEARNING CENTER
Located within the Duneland School Corporation, the Trojan Learning Center (TLC) offers a wealth of learning opportunities for young children and their families. The TLC is also home to the offices of the RISE Academy (Alternative Education) and DSC's Northwest Indiana Online School.
Did you know? Our early childhood programs feature FREE Birth-to-School activities for caregivers and children! Duneland School Corporation provides preschool options for children ages 3-5, including two classrooms for children with developmental delays and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), as well as two additional preschool rooms operated by our community partner, the Duneland Family YMCA. All of the preschool classrooms utilize a proven curriculum that helps children grow in thinking, social skills and emotional well-being ensuring each child has a fun and supportive learning experience. Additionally, all preschool students participate in engaging and enjoyable activities together!
The TLC also hosts speech services for children aged 3-5 who qualify. Families can bring their children to learn and work one-on-one with a speech pathologist at our center.
Best of all, the DSC preschool and walk-in speech services are free for qualifying children. The Duneland Family YMCA preschool is available for a nominal fee. Did you know it is the only local preschool that includes swim classes?
Join us at the Trojan Learning Center, located at Door 9 on the south side of the Duneland School Corporation Administration Building, and take advantage of these amazing early learning opportunities.
