NMS Tiger Times

Dear NMS Families,

Now that our student have been settled into the school routine, students have been participating in the usual benchmark assessments across the content areas. This information will be used to develop our targeted instruction for all students during their WIN blocks for the four core academics.

Our lunches have been going well. Students are moving through the lunch line efficiently. We are pleased to be taking a few tables at a time outside for the last 10 minutes of lunch for the students who are interested in the fresh air. We are continuing to rotate tables getting students outside.

Please save the date for a NMS Parent and Caregiver Information Night on October 29th from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the NMS Auditorium. You will receive an informational flyer with greater detail to come.

Our students have been caught making great choices by being helpful, supporting a peer, showing empathy, and taking on a leadership role! We continue to celebrate success both big and small!

Our Unified Bocce team has its first away meet on Wednesday, October 9th at Rehoboth. We will wish our student athletes the best!

The Nichols Middle School Drama Club is pleased to announce the musical for the 2024-2025 school year. This year’s production will be…. Matilda Jr.!

"Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!"

If you are interested in auditioning for the musical and/or working as a crew member for the musical, please come to an informational meeting on Monday, October 7th right after school in the auditorium. This meeting will be until 3:30 p.m. Late buses will be available.

Wednesday, October 16th - Call Back Auditions (for select students)

Art Club provides a space for students to express themselves through their art. The purpose of art club is to encourage creative expression, create artwork for the plays and the school, allow students to discover new mediums, hone their skills and bring together students who love art.

Every Other Tuesday

Builder's Club is a community service organization for middle school students in the world. As part of the Kiwanis Club family of community service organizations. This club is designed for students passionate about making a difference in the world. Every Tuesday.

Chess Club is a place for beginner or more advanced student to increase their skills competing against one another.

GSA is the Gender and Sexuality Alliance creates positive social connections facilitated by a supportive adult. GSA focuses on self-expression, self-esteem, and creativity. Every Other Monday

Student Council is a place for students to help classmates, spread school spirit, and make the NMS a better place. First Wednesday of Every Month

Family and Community Resources Newsletter for October

Starting September 16th, the late bus is available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This is a great option for students to access to participate in some of the afterschool activities. The late bus is also provided for students who remain after school for prearranged assistance from a teacher or for after school detention. All students must have a pass. Students are not allowed to leave school grounds and return for the bus.

There are four late buses. In the cafeteria, where students gather prior to boarding, there are four books with addresses. Each book tells the students which bus they board based on their address. The bus passes given to the driver has your student's address. This allows the driver to make sure students are able to make it home appropriately.

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) supports important programming for our students and staff through fundraising. The PTA assists with funding school-wide enrichments, grade level activities, teacher appreciation events, and family nights.

The PTA meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 PM at the NMS Media Center (with the exception of Nov 12).
