Regular Academic Session Courses (01/11/2023 - 05/03/2023):

• 2/1/2023: Last day to apply for Spring degree candidacy without a late fee. After this date a $50 00 Late Candidacy Application fee will be assessed.
• 2/8/2023: Instructor's and dean's signatures are required on a Change of Schedule form to change from pass/fail to regular grades or vice versa.

Seven Week Second Session Courses (01/11/2023 - 03/03/2023):

• 2/7/2023: Instructor's and dean's signatures are required on all Change of Schedule forms to add or change classes.
• 2/14/2023: Last day to file for Grade Replacement Opportunity (GRO). Last day for students to withdraw from a class online through UAccess.
• 2/15/2023: Instructor and dean's signatures required on a Late Change Petition in order to withdraw from class and students must have an extraordinary reason for approval.
• 2/21/2023: Last day for students to submit a Late Change Petition to their college.

If financial considerations are standing in the way of your international exploration, the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and Gilman Application Award may be the right fit for you.

Gilman Scholarship:

By elevating undergraduate students who have financial need and are eligible for a Pell Grant, the Gilman Scholarship has been successful in supporting students who have been historically underrepresented in education abroad, including but not limited to first-generation college students, veteran students, ethnic or racial minority students, students with disabilities, students attending minority-serving institutions and students coming from U.S. states with less study abroad participation. Scholarship amounts range from $100-$5,000 depending on need and expense of Study Abroad program chosen. To learn more about the University of Arizona’s history of sending students abroad with the Gilman Scholarship and to read about two previous winners’ experiences, check out this article.

Gilman Application Award:

Additionally, whether or not they are chosen to receive the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, all eligible students who successfully complete and submit a Gilman Scholarship application will receive the Gilman Application Award, an award of $500 to be used on a UArizona Study Abroad experience.

Scholars are selected based on merit. Award amounts range from $500 - $5,000, based on relative need.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must be of Hispanic heritage
• U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident, or DACA
• Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students; minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for college and graduate students
• Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, public or not-for-profit, four-year university, or graduate school, in the US, for the 2023-2024 academic year
• Submit the FAFSA or state-based financial aid forms (if applicable)

As a Psychology Peer Mentor, you will have the opportunity to mentor first-semester Psychology Majors, co-facilitate a 1-hour weekly class, learn basic counseling skills, and earn course credit! Applications due April 17th 2023.

The Program for Anxiety, Cognition and Treatment (PACT) Lab at the University of Virginia, under the direction of Bethany Teachman, Ph.D, in collaboration with the Sensing Systems for Health Lab, under the direction of Laura Barnes, Ph.D, seeks applicants for a full-time Project Coordinator to start July 10, 2023 (though specific start date is negotiable).

The team investigates cognitive processes that contribute to the development and maintenance of anxiety and related disorders, and we use mobile assessment methods and digital interventions to reduce anxious thinking and increase access to mental health services. The position will involve coordination of lab-, mobile- and web-based data collections, with a focus on using physiological monitoring to detect periods of anxiety and offer targeted mHealth interventions. We work with a broad age range and a variety of anxious populations, including communities that are traditionally underserved (e.g., racial and ethnic minoritized).

Duties will include helping to manage the psychophysiological data collections and cleaning, database management, coordinating IRB applications, assisting with participant recruitment and study protocol implementation, preparation of study materials (including programming support for our development team), training research assistants, and general administrative and lab project support. The Lab Coordinator will also have opportunities to co-author scientific papers and conduct independent research. This is an excellent position for a college graduate who is interested in gaining additional research experience before going on to graduate study in clinical psychology or engineering.

Are you interested in launching your career in data and technology? Join us on Feb 8th for an informational webinar and Q&A on the MS Information Science (with sub-plans in Machine Learning and Human-Centered Computing) and MS Data Science degrees at the University of Arizona. Offered through the School of Information, Arizona’s only iSchool!

Students in these degrees can pursue exciting careers in a wide variety of fields. Common job titles include data scientist, data engineer, business data analyst, machine learning or artificial intelligence engineer, and software or web programmer. Many of our degrees are offered either on main campus, fully online, or through UArizona global programs and can be completed in as little as 1.5 years. Our students come from a wide variety of majors and go on to work not only in the tech industry but in any field that manages data. Our interdisciplinary faculty are experts and do research in fields such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, virtual/mixed reality, game development, data mining, cognitive science, and more!

The Psychology department is now offering a new undergraduate certificate entitled, Insights into Healthy Aging: Promoting Healthy Minds, Brains, & Lives.

The certificate is intended to help students develop transferrable skills that are highly valued by employers and to make students more marketable upon graduation.

Only 4 courses are required to earn the certificate, and two of the certificate classes are offered in Spring-2 (starting mid-March). They are:

• PSY 367: Relationships and Aging in a Sociocultural Context
• PSY 459: Adult Development and Aging

If you are interested in enrolling in the certificate program, talk to your academic advisor! Schedule an appointment using the Trellis scheduling system. There are phone, Zoom, and in-person appointments available.

If you’re looking for a new class to pick-up for the Spring-2 semester beginning March 13th, I recommend checking out PSY 360: Social Psychology with Professor Alma Tejeda Padron. Enrolled students will learn about the self, social cognition, attitudes, interpersonal relationships, group processes, prejudice, aggression, and more. This is one of our most popular courses, and typically fills to capacity. Professor Tejeda Padron has won numerous teaching-related awards and was recently spotlighted by the Center for Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning.

We just added the course to our Spring line-up, so this is a great opportunity to get enrolled before spots fill up!
