Week of September 9, 2024
Every student graduates ready to live, learn, and thrive in a global community
Thank you to our Etown families for attending Parents’ Night last Wednesday. It was an especially large turnout and we received many positive comments. It was great to see everyone connecting through conversation and seeing our high school as a community hub. We continue to appreciate the support from the entire community.
Wednesday is September 11 - a day to reflect on the terror attacks over two decades ago. We remember those who were lost and express thanks to the first responders who risked their lives. We will be having a moment of silence to honor all those affected by the attacks.
We are back to a normal five day week. Students continue to be positive and enthusiastic about the school year. Have a great week!

School Attendance
As we begin the 2024-2025 school year, we want to remind you that regular school attendance is critical to your child's success in the classroom. Consistent school attendance helps students build strong academic foundations, develop social skills, and foster a sense of responsibility.
To ensure a smooth process and stay informed about our attendance policies, please visit our Attendance Information Page. Here, you will find everything you need to know about reporting absences, excused and unexcused absences, and how we can work together to support your child's regular attendance. Please note that if your child is absent, it is important to follow the District's reporting process AND notify the school as soon as possible.
Thank you for your partnership in helping us create a positive and successful school year for all students.
Children's Health Insurance Program
See this flyer for more details on this program
Nursing services
A Certified School Nurse is available in the high school health room for first aid treatment of accidents or illnesses occurring during school hours. The nurse is not permitted to diagnose illnesses or treat injuries that happen outside of the school day. If a student becomes ill/injured during school hours, they should have the classroom teacher make a pass to report to the school nurse. Students should not leave class for problems that are not causing an immediate obstacle to class participation.
If a student reports to the nurse during the school day due to not feeling well, the school nurse will evaluate the student’s health.
- If the nurse finds the student to be ill, the nurse will call the parent/guardian to ask for the student to be picked up. This is an excusable absence.
- If the nurse finds the student to be healthy enough to stay at school, the student will be asked to return to their classroom.
- Following a healthy check-up from the nurse, if the student contacts home to ask to be picked up, and if the parent/guardian picks up the student, the absence will not be excused.
- Also, if the student contacts a parent without going through the nurse’s office or office, and if the parent/guardian picks up the student, the absence will not be excused.
Sapphire Community Portal
Parents are strongly encouraged to create a Sapphire Community Portal account if they do not currently have one. Library Materials
At the Elizabethtown Area School District, we are committed to offering a rich selection of high-quality books that inspire, challenge, and engage all of our students. Our library collections are carefully curated and rated to meet the diverse needs of learners across all grade levels, including young adult and advanced readers. Some of these books may include more mature content, particularly for students in grades 6-12 who have access to the full range of library materials.
We understand that parents and guardians know their children best, and we respect that some families may prefer to limit their student’s access to certain books. If you feel your child is not yet ready for specific titles, we encourage you to review our rating system and determine which classifications are most appropriate for them.
To support you in this decision, we offer a library opt-out process. Completing the opt-out form will flag your student’s library account, and access to the designated materials will be restricted accordingly. If you would like to take advantage of this option, please fill out the opt-out form, which is available at Library Resources - Opt-Out Form. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education.
