2024-25 Class Placement and Parent Input
A question often asked this time of year actually relates to planning for next school year. Parents often seek information about how class lists are developed. The formal
process of developing class lists for the 2024-25 school year will take place in April and May. Teachers work collaboratively to place children into classes based on a variety of factors. They include, but are not limited to:
•Careful attention and consideration for the educational needs and learning style of each child
•Factors that relate to programs such as special education, speech and other related services
•Peer social factors imperative to facilitating a classroom climate conducive to learning
•Medical needs
•Unique history with a specific teacher
•Boy/Girl ratio
•Diversity
•A subjective sense that the overall makeup of the class will be cohesive a form a productive community of learners
Obviously, all of these factors are not considerations for every child and the weight of any one variable is specific for each student. Ultimately, as principal, I have the final responsibility to oversee the creation of the class lists. I do not take requests for specific teachers, but I do value your input about your child’s needs. If you would like to provide input, please fill out the Parent Input Form. The form will provide the opportunity for you to share your child’s needs and the teacher qualities that you feel would best meet your child’s needs.
Requests need to be submitted by Monday, April 15th. Your input will be strongly considered when placing students in classes for next school year. I am confident that all of our teachers are qualified to provide your child with the best possible education. You can be assured that careful consideration will be given when planning for the educational experiences of each individual child in the contest of a larger learning community - their classroom.
Classroom Staffing changes for 24-25:
Shannon Wytulka (currently 5th grade) will be teaching 2nd grade
Sue Dailey (currently EO teacher) will be teaching 5th grade
Glow and Groove Art Jam Thank You!
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Glow and Groove Art Jam! The evening featured glowing art pieces created by Wingate artists, an upbeat lip sync contest, food and treats and an outstanding silent auction! The event raised over $14,000 which will support our Artist in Residence program and other PTO supported purchases. Because of the event's success, students at Wingate will benefit by having art class for the remainder of the year!! The event will also provide the initial funding that is needed for art classes during the first few months of the 24-25 school year.
Thank you to the event chair and Artist in Residence, Anna Hileman, the Wingate PTO, the volunteers, entertainers, donors and everyone who attended the event.

CMAS Testing
After an enjoyable Spring Break, we are energized and ready to continue the fourth (and last!) quarter of our school year! One of the big fourth quarter events happening for our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders is the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) Assessment. We are excited for our students in those grades to be able to experience showing all the great ideas and skills they have been developing! Though you’ve received information about the assessment from the school and/or your child’s teacher/s, we wanted to make sure you had the most current information and some reminders to help your student do their best.
We will begin our assessment schedule on Tuesday, April 4th and continue through the week of April 10th (3rd and 4th grades) or through the week of April 17th (5th grade). For your child's specific grade level testing schedule, please click here. If your child receives testing accommodations, his/her schedule might vary slightly.
We ask that you avoid making appointments or travel during your child's testing times. If your child has to miss a session, make ups will be given.
Here are some things you can do at home to help this be the most positive experience for your student:
- Reinforce that this is not a situation of "good" or "bad"; we want every student to be proud of their very best work and try their hardest (just like we always do!)
- Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before any school day - especially testing days.
- A good breakfast goes a long way towards making a great day.
- Getting to school on time, without rushing, is also a great way to start the day
