TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS CHRONICLE
August 16th, 2024
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear OSES Family Members,
Welcome back. I am marveled at how great our first week of school was at OSES. The returning students didn’t miss a beat and the new families are settling in faster than ever. If this is an indication at how the year is going to go, it will be one of the best.
There is a lot of information that could be shared, and you will find a lot of it here in our newsletter (and two primary social media sites: Facebook and Instagram).
Two of the frequented topics at the start of every school year is dismissal and clubs.
Depending on your frame of reference, and when you started OSES, you may experience the pickup processes differently. What I can tell you is this is the fastest first week we have ever had at the campus (and it should only get better). The average pickup time is under 15 minutes. Minimizing early arrivals has helped tremendously (you cannot come on school grounds between 2:00-2:55). If you are experiencing the carline for the first time, while it may not seem quick, it’s the best we can do (and we are working hard every dismissal). Please be kind and patient to all.
Clubs at OSES are in high demand. Please allow us a few weeks to let our clubs settle. If you want to change a club, add a club, etc. you will find information in this edition. The processing time may vary, again please be patient. A few new clubs may also be added as the year progresses.
Whew. Talk to you next Friday.

THIS WEEK IN GRADES K-6
KINDERGARTEN
Whitaker
We had a great first week of Kindergarten!
Following the Kinder Kickoff on August 8, students came to Meet the Teacher on August 9 and then the First Day of School on August 12!
Students got to tour the school, learn about routines and procedures, and meet their classmates. Students enjoyed reading "Back to School" themed books such as How to Get Your Teacher Ready, The Kissing Hand, and Chrysanthemum.
In Ms. Whitaker's class we learned about cutting safety and practiced cutting a "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" tree.
We are ready for week 2!
FIRST
Nickerson
HAPPY FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL!!!
Ms. Nickerson’s class has begun learning about many classroom procedures and routines to get back into the school spirit. We’ve practiced using our pencils, crayons, scissors and glue. We completed many first-time activities for the school year, such as:
Playing on the playground
Flashlight reading
Independent story-time
And our first science data collection project of the school year!
The first-grade teachers would like to send out a few reminders for the school year.
Please remember to pack your student a snack and a water bottle each day. We cannot supply any snacks to students this school year.
Please remember to have your student in the school dress code. This includes shoes. We will be inputting conduct points for those violating the school dress code policy.
SECOND
Yeaman
This week in Mrs. Yeaman’s class we had a great time catching up with our old friends and meeting some new friends. We learned a lot of classroom procedures and sprinkled in some fun team building stem challenges, and classmate interviews.
THIRD
Martin
3rd Grade is having a great time learning their teacher’s expectations. Mr. Martin, Ms. Patel, Ms. Patsilevas, Ms. Jiawan and Ms. Myers have all been getting to know your children and explaining the rules and expectations that they need to succeed this year.
Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions. We want you to feel comfortable with everything we’re doing to help your child succeed.
A few quick reminders:
It is OCPS policy that students may not bring in food to share with the class in the classroom. For birthdays goody bags are still allowed to be sent home. Please make sure your child has all their supplies asap. Several students are missing headphones, notebooks and a few other items.
FOURTH
Mr. Mateer
Dear Parents,
We are delighted to inform you that our first week of school was a tremendous success! Mr. Mateer, Ms. McGraw, Ms. Gallano, Ms. Baker, and Ms. Polejes thoroughly enjoyed getting to know your children and embarking on this exciting journey together. This week, we focused on familiarizing the students with class policies and routines, and helping those who switch teachers to adapt to the new classroom expectations.
Here are a few important reminders:
Picture Day is on August 26th. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately and ready to smile!
If you have any questions about our policies or curriculum, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher. We are here to collaborate and ensure your child’s success.
Additionally, we want to remind you of the new OCPS policy regarding food. No food may be provided to students other than school lunch and any food sent in for the individual child by their parents. This means we cannot have pizza parties, cupcakes, donuts, etc., for birthdays. Instead, consider sending in goody bags to send home at the end of the day.
Thank you for your support and cooperation. We know that working together with you is the best way to make sure that the 4th graders have their best year ever.
Best regards,
Mr. Mateer and the 4th Grade Team
FIFTH
Ms. Saucedo
The fifth-grade students were excited and ready to start the school year. They are adjusting well to the transition of having two teachers and classrooms. This week we learned the interests of our classmates with getting to know you activities. We focused on learning the procedures of the class and school. We look forward to an amazing year ahead!
SPECIALS
OConnor- STEM
The Specials Team would like to wish all students and guardians a wonderful welcome to the new school year! We are so excited for a year of fun and learning.
We have all been discussing the rules and procedures for each Specials class and doing amazing teamwork challenges to get to know each other and build cooperative skills.
For example, in STEM this week, each grade level worked to complete a challenge in teams of 4. Cooperation and communication were a must while performing these tasks.
