Message from Dr. Reams
Families,
We had a fun first "HOUSE HUDDLE" this Friday. In addition to our HOUSE DAYS (there will be 2 this year) we will have smaller huddles throughout the year to build relationships and connect across grade levels. You may be wondering, what is a house system? It is an incentive system to develop a stronger sense of school community. Students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade have been divided up into “houses.” Throughout the school year, students will earn points for their house for good behavior, special accomplishments, and more. Since each house includes students from every grade, it fosters a sense of community throughout the whole school! Our four houses are; Wave Runners, Blaze Runners, Trail Runners, and Sky Runners. You can purchase house gear from the links below!
Our car tags have arrived! You should have found a green tag in your child's folder this past week. Please be sure to hang them from your mirror in the afternoons at pick up! Thank you for your patience. This is the first time we had a company create these for us. We recognize that if you have more than one child you can only hang one tag. Please feel free to put the other tags on your dash. Thank you so much!

- 4th and 5th Grade Families: Please find a preview copy here of the student GCPS Sense of Belonging and Inclusion Survey that will be administered to 4th and 5th grade students during the school day on October 4, 2024. The purpose of the survey is to collect student input on how our school is doing in creating a safe, welcoming, inclusive environment for all students and to solicit input on how we can improve. Any parent wishing to opt their child out of taking this survey may do so by emailing Dr. Reams @mreams@glnd.k12.va.us.
- 4th and 5th Grade Families: Please join us on Wednesday, September 25th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm beginning in the GMS Auditorium to learn more about the advanced high school programs available to GCPS students (Advanced College Academy, Blue Ridge Virginia Governor's School, and Maggie Walker Governor's School). All families with students in grades 4-8 are welcome! It's never too early to start planning!
Gifted and Talented News
How can students be referred for gifted screening?
A teacher or a parent may refer a child for gifted screening. If your child exhibits gifted behaviors and is performing above level, you or your child’s teachers may refer your child as a good candidate. The fall testing window opens October 1st and closes November 1st.
Go to Goochland County Schools Gifted Page. Here you will find the Gifted Referral Process and the Initial Referral Form. This form is due to Randolph Elementary by 3pm on November 1st. Please contact egemmill@glnd.k12.va.us with questions.
Destination Imagination permission slips are due to the GRT at your child’s school no later than Monday, September 30th. Learn more by checking out the attachments.
