COMMUNITY UPDATE
Dear Collins Community-
We have successfully completed all of our grade-level whole class testing sessions this week. Well done grades 3-6! Next week, we will focus on make-up sessions and absent sessions for students that missed the MSTEP testing. Teachers will also begin working on NWEA assessments with their classrooms as well. We look forward to spoiling our teachers next week to celebrate TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK May 12-16th! Please see below for an update on daily events and thank you in advance for helping us to spoil the very best Collins Teaching Staff. See you at the PTO meeting on Monday, May 12th @ 3:45. Finally, to those of you celebrating Mother's Day, we wish you the very best MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND!! HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
SCHOOL APPROPRIATE CLOTHING: As the weather warms up, please review the dress-code with your students and be sure to review what is acceptable to wear to school. In addition, tennis shoes are strongly recommended to play during sports. If you need help finding shoes, please let us know!
AFTER SCHOOL: As a reminder, our school playground becomes a PUBLIC PARK, after school hours. PRESCHOOL IS STILL IN SESSION and we ask that you refrain from playing on the PARK until 3:45, when school is done. Thank you!
Wishing you a relaxing weekend!

CLASSROOM PLACEMENTS FOR 2025-2026
Dear CUBS community members,
We all at Collins can hardly believe our 2024-2025 school year is almost to a close. The students have achieved remarkable progress together academically, while sharing countless smiles and laughter together as a community. To say we are proud of their success is an understatement-we are overwhelmed and overjoyed by their continued success this school year. Keep GROWING!
Looking forward to next year, although we do not take personal teacher requests for the following school year, our collective staff members take classroom placements very seriously. The process is a lengthy one that involves many staff members creating a new classroom for the 25-26 school year that will help create the optimal learning environment for all. Furthermore, as our staff members may change grade level placements or an unexpected promotion/move may come along for our wonderful Collins Cubs teachers, we do not place students with teachers, but rather with a group of students we feel would be the best environment for all their needs. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to having finalized placements in late August, 2025.
5th GRADE FAMILIES
Please see the letter that was emailed on Thursday, May 8, 2025 regarding selection of your upcoming 6th grader's elective classrooms (specials). The deadline for submission on these electives will be by Friday, May 23, 2025. Best wishes on your careful selection process!
DRESS CODE REMINDERS
As the weather gets warmer, please remember our guidelines to be followed from our Utica Community Schools 2024-2025 Parent and Student Handbook (see pages 69-70):
"Consider the following guidelines when selecting school clothing:
1. Indecent, tattered or unsafe dress or footwear, or attire that calls undue attention to the wearer or has lettering or symbols that are disrespectful or derogatory are not allowed. Beach wear, low-cut tops, tank tops, sleeveless tops, muscle shirts, see- through clothing, short skirts or shorts, pajamas, tight clothing without proper coverage and clothing exposing the shoulders or mid-section are not allowed. CODE OF CONDUCT 69 School Appropriate Attire and Appearance (Continued)
2. Knee length shorts and skirts are acceptable. Shoes must be worn.
3. Outerwear, such as coats and hats, is not to be worn in school.
4. Clothing that promotes illegal substances or drugs, illegal activities, violence, tobacco or alcohol is prohibited.
5. Clothing or head coverings worn as group identifiers that promote a disruptive school climate are prohibited.
6. Clothing consistent with religious or cultural beliefs is acceptable.
7. Jewelry and accessories that may be deemed dangerous are prohibited.
8. Costumes and costume accessories are not to be worn at school unless otherwise authorized by school administration (holidays, specific events, etc.)"

RECESS RULES REMINDERS
As the weather warms up and we are excited to get outside, it is a reminder to all our students that it is an expectation to follow all school board policies and procedures. That includes:
- Respectful language (not obscene or profane)
- No threatening language that may unintentionally cause harm to a student.
- HANDS OFF-no pushing, shoving, slapping, fighting that may endanger the safety of others
- Not jumping from the swings due to safety hazard.
- Respectful of all staff members that are present. It is important to listen to the rules the first time they are given.
SOCCER/FOOTBALL PLAYING EXPECTATIONS: we love the competitive nature of our sports enthusiasts, but it is important to remember that we are at a school ground, not a facility that is conducive to our competitive sports we play outside. We are here to play and have fun at recess together. Thank you for using kind words, respectful language, and non-physically aggressive mannerisms. Have fun!
