WINTER SPORTS RECAPS
Wrestling
The Mustang wrestlers are getting used to state tournament appearances and this season was no different. Six 'Stangs qualified for the 3A State Tournament. Sophomores Michaelray Abeyta, Brett Arnoldussen, juniors Kara Donegan and Abbie Reeves and seniors Camden Jacobson and Bradyn Dowling all represented the Mustangs. Arnolussen and Dowling both won first round matches, narrowly missing making the podium. Reeves and Donegan both faced difficult paths through the bracket in a rapidly growing sport. The Mustangs have a good nucleus of returners, led by Arnoldussen with a bright future ahead.
Swimming
This year the Mustang Swim & Dive team proved just how much dedication and hard work can pay off. Selah Combs and Summer Tenpas led the 'Stangs, who qualified for the 3A state tournament. Combs was a 3rd place finisher in the 50 freestyle (25.45) and also top 10 finish in the 100 freestyle, the best Mustang finish since Bella Kuzbek in 2021. Freshman Rhys Paratt was the first diver to qualify for state since to 2011-2012 season and the coaches are excited about her young potential. The 'Stangs brought on veteran assistant coach Lisa Korbitz, a former La Junta swim & dive coach, this season. Lisa was a great mentor to the program and the Mustangs are excited about the future with this young and talented group of athletes.
