Mrs. Stokes' Notes
The school year is off to a great start! Students, established and new, are making friends and becoming independent with the routines of school. Students have completed their first week of back to school assessments. Some classes are finished, while others have a few more assessments to complete this week. While assessments are not the most enjoyable for students, they are critical in teachers being able to make a personalized plan to meet academic needs. Once assessments are complete, schedules will settle into a more predictable routine.
Although school just began, I already have some things that I want to highlight. First, students are absolutely loving the added recess in the morning and teachers are reporting that students are coming in alert and ready to learn after getting a bit of exercise and fresh air. Big thank you to Mrs. Ostler for recommending this change and for the staff that was open to trying something new. Second, we have added a number of after school clubs. Between middle school soccer, chess, and basketball we have over 70 kids participating in an after school activity. We are so appreciative of the volunteers and coaches who are devoting their time and talents to offer enriching experiences for kids. Finally, I was excited to see our library full for the first parent group meeting of the year. Chapman is extremely lucky to have so many families who support what happens at school. Thank you to those who participated in the meeting last week and we look forward to those who are considering joining.
As always, I am proud to be a Chapman Eagle and want to let you know that my door is always open. I am here to support staff, students, and families as we work together to encourage student success.
With Gratitude,
Mrs. Stokes

Chapman Policy for Extended Absences
In preparation for the upcoming moose hunt and other family activities. Chapman wanted to communicate their updated policy for extended absences when students are gone for 5-10 days.
First, Chapman School acknowledges the importance of spending time together as a family and the educational value that comes from traveling. That being said, when students are absent, they miss out on valuable learning that takes place within the classroom. In an effort to support your child in their absence there is a form that needs to be completed. This form needs to be picked up from the office and completed by the student and teacher and signed by the parent and administrator. The form assists in the clear communication between families and school about what is expected while the student is gone.
**For absences longer than 10 consecutive days, as per Board Policy, the student would be unenrolled. Student access to district-provided digital resources and teacher provided work will cease after the 10th day of consecutive absences. The student will be re-enrolled upon return to school.

All Chapman volunteers and visitors to classrooms, the lunchroom, etc. must have a volunteer screening completed. If you plan on volunteering for clubs or sports as an assistant coach or parent helper, you must also have training on concussion and sudden cardiac arrest. Trainings are linked below. You do not need a screening completed to attend Chapman sponsored events such as award's assemblies, parent teacher conferences and family activities.
