Fifth Grade:
This week's musical journey takes us to the Folk music revival of the 1960's. The revival actually began during the 1940's. However, during the 1960's the Civil Rights movement began to gain momentum and folk music was able to give a voice to people that wanted to see equality and justice. Folk songs also were used to protest the Vietnam War, which had its deadliest years in the late 1960's.
Below are two links by two famous folk artists, Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan, regarding equality in America and the Civil Rights movement. Also, I want to add that Bob Dylan was heavily influenced in his early music days by Sam Cooke (sound familiar from our Rhythm and Blues lesson???). Please listen to the links and fill out the google sheet below.
