SkillsUSA Interest Meeting this Thursday (8/29)
Are you interested in food, prizes, and fun? Join our SkillsUSA chapters for the 24-25 kick-off meeting on Thursday, August 29th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Robert R. Shaw Center (next to Miller).
SkillsUSA is Miller's main career and technical student organization. The organization focuses on developing career skills, building student resumes, completing community service, and participating in district competition (and then possibly state and national competitions).
Check us out on Canvas
This year, we have developed a MCTC EPICĀ² Student Canvas course, where we will share information with students and parent observers regarding whole-campus procedures, activities, and initiatives. This is just one other source of communication with our community. All students have already been added to the course and therefore, parents have observer access.
Beginning of the Year Student Assemblies
On Thursday, August 15th and Friday, August 16th, the administrative team met with all students to review MCTC processes, procedures, and expectations. Linked below is the PowerPoint we talked through. Please click on the buttons below to view the Dress for Success dress code model used across the district and the MCTC Discipline Consequences sheet for Tardies and Dress Code.
Any students who were absent on these days have been assigned a module for completion in our MCTC EPICĀ² Student Canvas course to complete.
2024 - 2025 Exam Exemptions
Please click on the button below to view the 2024 - 2025 Katy ISD Semester Exam Exemption criteria. Miller Career & Technology Center follows these exemption expectations and coordinates with home campuses.
GPA Exempt Course Information
Katy ISD encourages high school students to pursue their areas of special talents and interests to enrich their academic experience in Career and Technical Education (CTE), Fine Arts, and Athletics. Many CTE courses offered at Miller Career & Technology Center qualify as GPA exempt courses.
What that means: Once approved, students will receive credit for the qualifying GPA exempt course but will have their grade excluded from the GPA and class rank computation. In order to apply for a GPA exemption, students must currently have a 4.0 or above GPA and maintain a B average in the GPA exempt course to maintain eligibility. Students may take a maximum of three (3) credits on a GPA exempt basis during their high school career.
The GPA Exempt Courses Information and Online Application are located within the GPA Exempt tile on MyKaty Cloud.
If a student is interested in applying for a GPA exemption for a qualifying course he/she is currently enrolled in and meets all the criteria above, he/she needs to:
- Complete the online GPA Exempt application located in MyKaty Cloud.
- Submit the application no later than the determined deadline (Thursday, September 19). At this time, if all criteria are met, it will be approved, and a course change will be made to reflect enrollment in a GPA Exempt course.
- Once the student makes the decision to take a course as GPA-exempt, the decision is final and cannot be changed.
- Students enrolled in full-year courses do not need to reapply during the second semester.
- Students, including move-in students, who miss the deadline for application for the first semester, may apply for exemption for the second semester if they meet the criteria.
