WHAP- What's Happening at Park
October 2024
Here's what's happening at Park Elementary
Dear Parents and Families,
As we step into October, I hope this message finds you well. This month brings with it a sense of change, both in the seasons and in our school community. It’s a time for new beginnings, growth, and togetherness.
October is not only a beautiful month filled with fall colors, but it also presents us with opportunities to engage more deeply with our students and each other. We have several exciting events planned, including Panther Prevention week, Halloween Carnival and the Halloween Parade. More information about the Halloween Carnival and Parade will be sent home at a later date. These events provide a wonderful chance to connect and support our students.
I encourage you to stay engaged with your child’s learning and to reach out with any questions or ideas you may have. Your involvement makes a significant difference in our school community.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication. Let’s make this October a memorable and impactful month together!
~Mrs. Lindley
Lunch Reminders
As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure a smooth and efficient lunchtime experience for all students, we would like to provide some guidelines regarding food items brought from home that require warming.
To maintain a timely process, we ask that any food needing to be heated can be warmed within one minute. Foods that require longer heating times, such as Cup of Noodles, may not fit within our schedule and can lead to delays.
We appreciate your cooperation in selecting food items that align with this guideline. This will help us ensure all students have ample time to enjoy their meals.
Nebo District is offering a mental health screener for students from 4 pm to 8 pm Monday, October 7, 2024, at Diamond Fork Middle School. We will be using Terrace Metrics software to measure mental and emotional strengths, as well as screen for anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation of students in grades 6-12. Students in grades 3-5 may participate as well, and that screener will measure mental and emotional strengths, as well as screen for anxiety and depression.
If you would like to participate, please sign up here for an appointment. The assessment tool takes an average of 15 minutes to complete. Afterward, you and your student will meet with a school counselor or social worker to discuss the results of the assessment and receive resources as needed.

Prior to taking the mental health screener, a consent form needs to be completed by the parent/guardian. The consent form will be available upon arrival.
If you have any questions, please contact your school counselor.

Halloween Parade
We will be celebrating Halloween on Thursday, October 31st. Students are invited to dress up in their costumes that day. The parade will begin promptly at 2:30 PM. We will follow this parade route around the school. Parents are invited to watch in front of the school, or anywhere along the parade route.
Kindergarten will lead our parade and we will go in the following order.
Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, & 5th grade. The parade will begin at the front of the school by the flagpole.
Please remember the following:
As you drive into the area around the school that day, please go slow and use caution as there will be many cars and people. Let’s stay safe.
Remember that students are not allowed to bring any type of play weapon (even if it goes with their costume). Masks can be worn during the parade, but not during the school day. Teachers have a fun day of learning planned and costumes shouldn't be particularly distracting to students or their peers.
Costumes should follow our dress code.
Veterans Day
For Veterans Day in November, we would like to share a slideshow with our students that includes any family members that have served or are serving in the Armed Forces! We have a slideshow that has been created throughout the years. If you have shared in the past couple of years we should still have your information and you do not need to send it again. If you are fairly new to Park, and you haven’t sent anything, we would love to have you do so if you would like to. Please include a picture, the Veteran’s name, relation to the student, and where and how long they have served. You can email this to holly.moss@nebo.edu, or you can also send a copy, that will stay with the school, to your child’s teacher. Please have this information emailed or turned in by November 1st, so we have time to prepare the slideshow.
