THIS WEEK IN GRADES K-6
KINDERGARTEN
Bradley
This week students participated in a STEM activity in which they made fake snow using two different methods. Students observed the texture of the "snow" as well as it's ability to compact and form a snowball to determine which method was the best. The best method was then used to make snowballs for our annual snowball toss! Students had a blast tossing the snowballs from the winning method. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped us make and organize the snow.

It was a week before 1st grade winter break,
And all through our classes was a STEM-filled week.
From paper chains to pipe cleaner trees,
We worked with our hands and our minds full of ease.
We silenced the jingle bell, quiet as night,
As Grinch Day approached, what a hilarious sight!
With laughter and mischief, the Grinch on the screen,
We watched his antics, so silly, so mean.
But still we were busy, our spirits so bright,
Building a shelf for our elf, just right.
Each project was fun, and we worked side by side,
With joy in our hearts and holiday pride.
So, the days flew by, with magic in the air,
Our classrooms were buzzing with festive flair.
And as the week ended, we all couldn’t wait,
For holiday fun and a break to celebrate! 🎄🎅
Happy Holidays to all!

Math:
This week in math, second graders practiced solving two-step word problems using addition and subtraction. They focused on understanding the problem, choosing the correct operations, and solving each step in order. It's been exciting to see students become more confident in tackling complex problems and developing their problem-solving skills!
Reading:
In reading, we learned about Wilma Rudolph, an Olympic gold medalist who overcame polio and other challenges to become the fastest woman in the world. Her story taught us the importance of perseverance and hard work. We also explored the roles of our government leaders, including the President, Vice President, senators, governors, and state representatives. Students learned about how these leaders help make important decisions that affect our country and communities.
Social Studies:
In social studies, students became smart consumers by learning how to analyze the costs and benefits of different choices. They practiced making thoughtful decisions about spending money, understanding how the benefits of a purchase can outweigh the costs, and how to prioritize their wants and needs.
Science:
In science, we worked on creating wind-powered cars using the engineering design process. Students had the opportunity to plan, build, test, and improve their cars, learning about design, testing, and problem-solving along the way. It’s been exciting to see their creativity and teamwork as they experiment with different ways to make their cars go farther using wind power
THIRD
Jiawan
As we wrap up an exciting 2nd quarter, we want to take a moment to reflect on the hard work and achievements of our third-grade students. It has been full of growth, learning, and new experiences, and we are so proud of everything our students have accomplished.
Reading
We finished our Module 5 Reading Unit with a focus on Theme and Figurative Language. The students did a fantastic job analyzing texts to identify underlying themes and exploring various forms of figurative language, such as similes, metaphors, and personification. They’ve developed a deeper understanding of how authors use language to convey meaning and add creativity to their stories.
Math
In Math, we recently completed Topic 12 on Graphs. The students worked hard to understand different types of graphs, including bar graphs, line plots, and pictographs. They practiced interpreting data, making predictions, and even creating their own graphs based on collected information. This unit helped strengthen their ability to analyze and communicate data in a clear and meaningful way.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we explored different countries and learned about how each celebrates holidays. The students enjoyed discovering the unique traditions and customs practiced around the world. It was an enriching experience that expanded their cultural awareness and helped them appreciate the diversity of global celebrations.
Science
In Science, we are currently working on classifying animals. Students are learning about different animal groups, such as mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects. They’ve been busy researching characteristics of each group, and we look forward to wrapping up this unit with hands-on activities that help them apply their knowledge in class.
As we close out theyear, I want to thank each of you for your continued support. It has been a pleasure watching your children grow and thrive in third grade.
Thank you for an amazing 1st half of the school year :=-)

We are so proud of our students for their hard work and success on the F.A.S.T. PM2 assessments! As part of our Project Earth reading module, students shared their STEM projects this week, where they researched, designed, and built self-watering systems for plants. They also practiced their writing skills by creating detailed reports to accompany their projects. We hope everyone has a wonderful winter break, and we look forward to seeing our students again in 2025!
FIFTH
Prince ELA/ Social Studies
In the Language Arts classroom, we have been working on our Fractured Fairy Tales, and the students will proudly present their work on Friday, December 20th. Among the stories the students have reimagined are The Three Little Pigs, Cinderella, The Ugly Duckling, and many more. This project has been a great opportunity for students to show their creativity and writing skills.
Additionally, we have been focusing on literary elements and elements of drama by exploring various stories and plays. These activities have helped deepen students' understanding of storytelling techniques and character development.
We also had a great time working on our STEM door project, which was made entirely of recycled materials. This activity not only fostered collaboration but also encouraged the students to think critically about sustainability and creative design. It has been an engaging and productive time in class, and I am so proud of the students' hard work and enthusiasm.

Our 3rd through 5th-grade mathletes had a fantastic time demonstrating their problem-solving skills and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of all our participating students for their hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment to excellence. A special congratulations goes out to those who achieved individual placements—your achievements reflect your dedication and passion for mathematics. Well done!
We are eagerly looking forward to the next qualifying round, which will be held in January at Goldsboro Elementary Magnet School. We are confident that our young mathletes will continue to grow, improve, and perform even better in the upcoming competition. Let’s wish them the best of luck as they prepare for their next challenge!
