Principal's Message
Dear Garden Road Families,
Friday Flag was planned and presented by our 5th grade Leadership Team. The students did a fantastic job! Poway High Ambassadors joined our campus and played with students on the playground before Friday flag. They entertained the crowd with some fun facts about themselves and demonstrated good (and poor) sportsmanship in their own Olympic challenge! It was announced that Mrs. Maguire will be returning to Garden Road for a seat at the dunk bucket at the Country Fair on Thursday, September 12! Please purchase your tickets (sold before and after school and at the Country Fair) for your chance to dunk Mrs. Maguire! Ms. Melnick is also signed up, so come and get us wet!
*Tickets will be sold before and after school 9/4 - 9/12 and at the gate as well. Wristbands already purchased for the 23-24 school year's postponed Country Fair will be honored along with the red "dunk bucket" tickets.
Join Our School Site Council (SSC)
SSC is a committee of teachers, staff, principal and parents whole are responsible for developing, monitoring and revising the schoolwide program through the Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). Our SSC also serves to enhance two-way communication between our school, families and the district. We currently have 3 open spots on our School Site Council.
SSC members are voted in by their peers and serve a two year term. There are five 1-1 ½ hour SSC meetings scheduled for the school year on the following dates: 9/23/24, 12/10/24, 3/11/2025, 4/8/24 and 5/14/24. Meetings will be held via Zoom at 6pm. (Dates are subject to change, based on the needs of the Council) If you are interested in joining our SSC, please complete this form by 9/13/24. Baby Rattlesnake Found in Parent Parking Lot
A parent found a baby rattlesnake near her car this week in the parent parking lot. This is rattlesnake birthing season. Baby rattlers are raised by their mothers and then go off to be independent. Please be aware and look carefully in the parking lot! Baby rattlesnakes have a small rattle.
TK/Kinder Workshops This Month - September 12, 19, and 26
Thank you, to those parents who came to our first workshop on September 5! Coffee was served and friendships were made! Our Counselor, Katie MacLeod, in partnership with Terri Gosen, retired TK teacher, is hosting another parent workshop this coming Thursday, September 12. Although these workshops will be somewhat tailored to TK and kindergarten students, all parents are encouraged to attend. Parents are welcome to come to one, two or all of the workshops and there is no need to RSVP. Classes begin at 8:00am but doors open at 7:45. Please come in, have a cup of coffee and relax!
Country Fair September 12 - Volunteers are Needed!
We are so excited to Welcome everyone Back to School at the GRES Country Fair! Please join us on the GRES Blacktop, Thursday September 12, 2024 from 4-7pm. There will be Carnival Games w/prizes, 3 Bouncy Obstacle Courses, delicious food...And much, much more. We can't wait to see all your smiling faces; both old and new friends alike!
Of course, we cannot make this happen without YOUR help. We need volunteers to help run games, set-up/take down, and run the Cake Walk, among other things. Please visit the Signup genius link here below to sign up for your shift.
Running Club Information
We are excited to start Running Club on September 9 for grades 1-5! Running Club is every morning at 7:20AM through the MPR gate. Running Club Registration Forms have been sent home from the teachers and are due by Wednesday, September 4. If you did not get a Registration Form and your child is interested in joining Running Club, please complete this Google Form ASAP. Your child will only receive a lanyard if they are registered for Running Club. Running Club prizes are awarded for mileage earned.
TK/Kindergarten Running Club is during school on Wednesday and Fridays with their classes. You do not need to register your TK/K runner for Running Club.

Heat Alert Day Correction
Previously, I incorrectly stated the plan for Heat Alert Days. Should temperatures reach 90 degrees (or feel like 90 degrees), we will move students indoors into the MPR. We will watch the weather closely and will keep you updated. With the upcoming hot weather, please make sure to send your student(s) to school with a refillable water bottle and healthy snacks.
