Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Community Members,
As we come to the end of another school year, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the continued support of our school community. Your partnership with us is essential to the success of your children, and we are grateful to be a part of your community.
We would also like to thank our staff for their hard work and dedication. Our teachers are passionate about their work, and they are committed to providing our students with the best possible education. We are so grateful for their efforts, and we know that they are making a difference in the lives of our students.
Your input and support continue to be invaluable to us. Our doors are always open, and we encourage you to reach out to us at any time.

Shaw's Got Talent 3
We were blown away by the talent at our third annual “Shaw's Got Talent” shows! Congratulations to all of the performers. You should be very proud of yourself. We LOVED watching you SHINE! Little Free Library at Shaw!
You may have noticed a shiny new Little Free Library outside the school... SURPRISE! We were 1 of 200 schools in the country to be gifted a library along with 200 books from Penguin Random House Publishing to help the Little Free Library Organization celebrate their 200,000th book-sharing box. Check out this special announcement to learn the full details and see if you can spot Shaw on the map. A special thank you to Ms. Kelley's third grade class for helping fill the library. This little library is the next step in bringing the #wooliebooklove to the Millbury community and the hope is that all residents and anyone who finds themselves at our sweet school will enjoy this new treasure. The library is intended to be self-sustaining and relies on the honor system of people taking a book and leaving a book. While on school grounds, this library is not for Shaw library books. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Happy Reading!
Shaw Elementary is excited to continue to offer Girls on the Run in the Fall of 2025. We need parent volunteers to help coach this program. The program begins the week of September 22 and will run two days a week for 8 weeks. The celebratory 5k will be on November 16. If you are interested in coaching or would like more information, please contact Tonia Alger

3rd Grade
We had an AMAZING time on our field trip to the Museum of Science in Boston this month. Check out a few pictures from our adventure!
4th Grade
The 4th grade field trip to Gillette Stadium on Friday, May 2nd was an unforgettable adventure from start to finish! Students were bursting with excitement as they explored the Hall of Fame museum, where they learned all about the rich history of the Patriots and the NFL. They were fascinated by the evolution of helmets over time and dove into a hands-on STEM challenge to design a SAFER helmet of theiown—creativity and collaboration were in full force! The excitement continued as students got to practice their field goal and spiking skills, and they were thrilled to get a first look at Will Campbell’s newly signed jersey—what a moment! After all that action, they enjoyed a delicious lunch at Red Robin, filled with laughter and full bellies. It was a day packed with learning, fun, and unforgettable memories—an extraordinary experience for ALL!
5th Grade
Recently, 5th-grade students had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the significance of keeping our freshwater resources clean during a visit from the Blackstone River Watershed Association (BRWA). The BRWA has been instrumental in restoring the Blackstone River, which was once considered one of the most polluted rivers in the United States. Through their educational programs, they aim to instill a sense of responsibility in young minds regarding water conservation and pollution prevention.
During the visit, students engaged in interactive lessons that demonstrated how everyday actions can impact water quality. They learned about various pollutants, such as fertilizers, pesticides, and pet waste, and how these contaminants can enter storm drains and ultimately affect rivers and streams. The BRWA emphasized the importance of simple actions like picking up after pets, reducing fertilizer use, and maintaining vegetated buffers along waterways to prevent pollution. Students left with an understanding of the importance of clean water and motivation to be a part of the solution.
6th Grade
Sixth graders traveled to Millbury High School on Monday, May 19th for a special Field Day organized by the Peer Ed program. The high schoolers set up a variety of games and activities and supervised our Shaw students for a morning of fun and exercise. There was face painting, tug of war, volleyball, soccer, and kickball, with a delicious ice cream treat at the end.
Peer Ed students from the high school visited Shaw several times this year to conduct lessons and talk with our students about how to navigate junior high and high school, with an emphasis on avoiding negative peer pressure. A sincere thank you to Ms. Morin and Ms. Henry along with all the high school students who participated in Peer Ed this year. An enormous twice over thank you to Millbury Parents Club for both providing the buses from Shaw to the high school and purchasing the ice cream treats at the end. Our sixth graders truly felt appreciated.
Unified Arts
Grade 5 Beginner Band
The Grade 5 beginner band gave a fantastic performance at their Spring Band Concert on Thursday, May 29, showcasing their hard work and enthusiasm. Dressed for the occasion, students showcased their musical growth through solos, small group performances, and full band pieces. Congratulations to all of our talented band members and Mr. Rollins on a job well done!
Looking ahead, Grade 5 is excited for their upcoming field trip to Old Sturbridge Village on June 12. During the visit, students will explore historic buildings and take part in an authentic, hands-on 19th century workshop. This experience will be a meaningful culmination to a year spent learning about U.S. history.
Band Instrument Donation Program
Do you have a band instrument that is no longer being used?
The band program at Shaw Elementary would like to provide the opportunity for every student, regardless of financial need, to learn how to play an instrument.
What type of donations are needed?
We are interested in brass, percussion, and woodwind instruments that are typically used in the elementary school band setting such as flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and snare drum.
Does the age and condition of the instrument matter?
Yes! Trying to learn how to play an instrument that does not work properly can be frustrating for a student. For this reason, we need to limit instrument donations that are of brand name (not purchased online or through a box store), in good to excellent condition, and no more than 15 -20 years old.
How do I make my donation?
Instrument donations may be dropped off with the Shaw Elementary office staff to be forwarded to Mr. Rollins.
Birthday Book Cart
Do you want to help promote the love of reading for students at Shaw? This year at Shaw we will once again have The Birthday Book Cart. Every day after a student has their birthday recognized during morning announcements they will get to choose a book they WANT to read and keep from The Birthday Book Cart. If you would like to support The Birthday Book Cart you can purchase a book from our Amazon Wish List or please feel free to drop off new books or donations to purchase new books at the main office at any time.
Choose Love💖
We are thrilled to continue offering lessons from the Choose Love curriculum to all students at Shaw. This curriculum teaches foundational concepts and skills of social-emotional learning through lessons on courage, gratitude, forgiveness, and compassion in action. Click the following link for an introduction to Choose Love.
