May Newsletter

A NOTE FROM SUPERINTENDENT DR. DAVID CHRISTOPHER
Dear WCASD Community,
If you ask anyone in our schools how things are going right now, you’ll probably hear the same response: “Busy—but a good busy.” It’s the phrase I’ve heard over and over again this time of year, and it truly captures the essence of May in WCASD.
Yes, it’s busy—there’s no doubt about that. Classrooms are buzzing, calendars are packed, and the pace is fast. But it’s good because we’re in the season of celebration and reflection. We’re watching students step onto stages for their final concerts and shows, take the field for their last games, and practice those final walks through former schools and across our stadiums toward their next big adventure. We’re taking trips, closing out projects, and wrapping up another year of growth, learning, and connection.
It’s good because we’re seeing the results of everything we’ve poured into our students throughout the year. We’ve taught them, supported them, challenged them, and cheered them on. And now, we get to step back and let them see how far they’ve come (and, if I know anything about our students, they'll do it in their own unique and inspiring way).
So yes, I hope you’re busy this month—but I hope it’s a good busy. The kind that fills you with pride in your children and grandchildren, reminds you why you do this work, and connects you to the sincere joy that comes from making a difference.
I’ll be seeing many of you at events all across the district in the coming weeks as we walk this wonderfully busy WCASD way together.

To every teacher across WCASD: thank you. Thank you for showing up with heart, for making a difference every single day, and for helping our students grow into who they are meant to be.

APRIL BOARD MEETING: SHARING THE FUN
At last month’s board meeting, Grace, Andrew, and Avyan from Greystone Elementary School led the salute to the flag and shared updates on all the wonderful things happening at their school.
They shared their excitement for activities both in and outside of the classroom. Reading groups, the Bill of Rights project, and Fun Friday Math activities were at the top of their list, along with the GES Talent Show. 4th and 5th grades students are getting ready for the track meet in May and can't wait to meet up with their friends from other schools while competing in the events.
Thank you, Grace, Andrew, and Avyan, for representing your school and giving us a glimpse into the engaging learning experiences at GES!
AN EPIC BATTLE IN THE BOROUGH

With each team giving it their all, the mini-tournament highlighted the talent, determination, and sportsmanship of these student-athletes.

WCAEF: THANK YOU TO OUR EITC DONORS!
The PA Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program was designed to encourage Pennsylvania organizations and businesses to partner in support of local communities. In addition to generating goodwill, participating Pennsylvania businesses can reduce their tax liability by supporting organizations like Foundations. Specifically, businesses can reduce their actual tax bill – dollar for dollar – once a tax liability has been established. For businesses committing to two consecutive years of support, a 90 percent credit will be awarded. For businesses committing to one year of support, a 75 percent credit will be awarded.
The EITC money donated in 2024 by First Resource, Truist, C&N, Mid Penn, Fulton, and Meridian Banks funded 23 WCASD Classroom Mini-Grants. The WCAEF is run by all volunteers, so every dollar donated to the foundation stays in the WCASD.
For more information on the EITC, visit the WCAEF webpage.
