The second and third grade students participated in a service project for the MASH food pantry. Area Krogers donated brown grocery bags and our students decorated them for the MASH pantry. The MASH pantry collects donations and has food drives on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. Founded by US Navy veteran Amber Hudson, MASH is an Independent 501(c)3 non-profit, homegrown organization that provides resources to meet personal needs local veterans may have: (i.e. food and hygiene items, support resources, vocational assistance, and more). We want to thank all of our sponsors and volunteers for their dedication to the community and selfless devotion to our local veterans and gold-star families.
Below are some pictures of the students decorating the bags.

Meet Our Teachers and Staff
Diane Starkey
Grade: 3rd grade
Years Teaching: This is my 17th year teaching.
Most Memorable Teaching Moment: I think my most memorable teaching moment has to be the year of teaching online only due to COVID. It was a very different experience having an empty classroom, but a screen full of kids. We worked together as a team as we navigated this new experience as teacher and students. It was so fun to go and visit each student in person before the holidays to give them a special treat!
Favorite Teacher Growing Up: My favorite teacher growing up was Mrs. Massie. She was my first grade teacher and she loved doing art projects with us. Her husband would cut things out of wood for us to paint. My parents still set out one of them for Christmas. I also received a nurse's outfit for Christmas that year and she let me wear it to school and walk sick students to the nurse's office.
Favorite Things (Favorite Place to Shop): Any craft store, because I love to scrapbook!
Fun Fact: I was the cheerleading mascot at my high school during my senior year.
Carla Sprankle
Grade: Third Grade Math
Years Teaching: 18 years
Most Memorable Teaching Moment: Reflecting on my journey as a teacher, I find that my favorite moments are not grandiose events or monumental achievements, but rather the quiet, seemingly insignificant instances that occur every day within our classrooms. It's the simple pleasure of witnessing the spark of excitement in a student's eyes when they grasp a concept for the first time or the joy that fills the room when they make meaningful connections between ideas.
Favorite Teacher Growing Up: Mrs. Syracuse, my fourth grade teacher, took the time to delve into the intricacies of her students' lives and aspirations. She listened with empathy, offered words of encouragement, and nurtured our potential with unwavering belief. In her classroom, we weren't just students—we were valued individuals with unique talents and dreams. She just made everyone feel very special.
Favorite Things (Favorite Place to Shop): Target :)
Fun Fact: I love to sing! Though I must confess, my vocal talents leave much to be desired! But fear not, for in the realm of my classroom, this little quirk of mine becomes a source of endless amusement and laughter. And the best part? My students are not just passive listeners—they're active participants in this musical extravaganza, eagerly chiming in with their own lyrics and silly antics.
Lorraine Nauta
Position: Educational aide
Years Experience: 2 years
Enjoy Most About Your Job: I love getting to know the kids and watching them grow. It's amazing to see who the kids are when they start school and how much they have learned by the end of the year, and knowing you had a part in it.
Favorite Teacher Growing Up: My favorite teacher growing up was Ms.Feeney. She was my second grade teacher and the teacher who taught me how to read. I will always remember how helpful and encouraging she was.
Favorite Things (Favorite Store): TARGET!!!! It has everything you need and more!!
Fun Fact: I have 10 chickens and am hoping to get a goat!

From The Clinic
A Message from The Elementary School Clinic:
Thursday, May 16, 2024, will be our last day of school. Please plan for a parent/adult to pick up your child’s medication in the Elementary Clinic. WE CAN NOT SEND MEDICATION HOME WITH YOUR CHILD. Please remember all medication forms expire at the end of our current school year. A new District Medication Consent Form will need to be completed for the 2024-2025 school year before any medication can be given. I am sending a new form home, or you can print one from our Hamilton Local web site. If medical supplies and/or medications are left after May 24, 2024, it will be discarded/disposed of. If you need to pick up medication after May 16th, please call first, as our hours of operation have changed.

Attendance
Attendance Awareness Campaign 2024
Attendance Awareness Campaign 2024 is off and running with the theme Be Present, Be Powerful! This year’s slogan is a call for everyone to focus on ensuring students show up every day, even when it isn’t easy.
Be Present, Be Powerful! is a reminder of the connection between school attendance and realizing our hopes and dreams. It highlights the role that school plays in promoting student well-being and achievement.

Mission Statement
Every Ranger, Every Reason, Every Day!
EVERY RANGER. This phrase is meant to include everyone—every student, every staff member, every graduate and every community member. All of us working together.
EVERY REASON. The primary focus of every school system is the academic achievement of all students. Our staff and, by extension, our community take on the challenge of doing even more for our students. We educate the whole child. Whatever the need, whatever the issue, whatever the REASON we are going to work together and do the best we can for each other.
EVERY DAY. Thank you to our HLSD community for making our students a priority every day, and for always pitching in to help one another
