Message from the Principal
Welcome back! A new school year is always such an exciting time. A fresh start, the smell of new school supplies, a clean building and the return of smiling young faces eager to connect with friends, meet their new teacher and ready to learn is such an inspiration to me. I look forward to greeting all our returning students and families and to welcoming new students and families to Woodlawn. Welcome as well to our new teachers; Christy Emard, Leah Read, Nia Rogers, Scott Jodoin and our new educational assistants Rene Schulz and Josef Kreiger.
The staff have worked hard these past couple of weeks readying classrooms and cleaning the school to be ready for the first day! A big thank you to Don McCracken and his summer cleaning staff for making our school look great! Another big thank you to Cheryl Braun and Lynn Giesbrecht in the office for the hard work they do behind the scenes making sure everything is in order.
It is said that culture is what we value most. Our school culture includes the mission to CARE, CONNECT, and CONTRIBUTE. In the coming months your children will learn the meaning of these concepts and how important they are to living a good life. Our new and improved 'Bucket Filling' slips will reflect their learning along the way.
The safety and education of your children is a privilege I and the entire staff take seriously. I want to thank you for partnering with us during your child's learning journey.

Message from the Vice Principal
At Woodlawn we like to encourage our students to be "Bucket Fillers". We spend time in assemblies and in classrooms talking about what it means to be a bucket filler. This year we, the staff are planning on also talking to our students about some of the key words in our mission statement: Care, Connect, and Contribute. We have new bucket filling slips with a focus on these three words. Caring, connecting, and contributing can be something that we do or share with others. We also want our students to know that it is important for them to care about themselves, to connect with their environment and their learning, and to make a contribution to their world, both at the community level as well as the global level.
Students will get "caught" by staff members caring, connecting, or contributing and they will get a bucket filling slip. Part of the slip will go into a bucket outside of the principals' offices and the other half will go home for the student to share with his/her family. Names will be pulled each day and students will receive a small prize. Once a week the students who have had their names pulled will get to come to Makerspace Monday at lunch with Mrs. Amos and myself. Once every six weeks or so, Mrs. Amos and I will take the students who have had their names pulled on a special trip somewhere in the community. We are still deciding where our "Bucket trips" will be this year so stay tuned!
When your child comes home with a Bucket Filling slip, please take some time to talk to him/her about what he/she was doing to be caring, connecting, or contributing.

Parent Portal/Student Information
The HSD Parent Portal is a communications tool designed to enhance and increase parent/guardian involvement in the education of their children by providing secure online access to their child's student information. With a single username and password you can access data for each of your children attending an HSD school. The Access IDs along with setup instructions have been sent via email to all eligible parents/guardians. If you did not receive the specified email, please contact the school office at 204-326-6110.
Please take a few minutes to review the student information and contact information for your child. It is important that the school has current address and contact information for your child in case it is necessary to reach someone during the school day. Changes can be made through the parent portal.
Information verification forms will be mailed to parents/guardians that have not updated their information through the parent portal before September 15th. If you receive a form through the mail, please make any necessary changes on the form, sign and return the form to the school office.

Picture Day information forms will be sent home with all students.
Please review the information form and send it back with your child on Picture Day.
All students will be photographed for school service products. Proofs will be sent home for you to preview the images before you buy!

School arrival/leaving times
Walking students and those dropped off by parents should arrive at school after 8:30 in the morning. Teacher supervision is provided starting at 8:30. Any students arriving on the playground before 8:30 will not be supervised and responsibility for the student belongs with the parent/guardian. Students are permitted to enter the building when the 8:53 bell rings.
Students are required to leave for home by 4:00 in the afternoon unless prior arrangements have been made. Please arrange a pick up location that is outside and near an entrance to the school (except the bus loop entrance) if you are picking up your child at the end of the day. This will help reduce the crowding in the halls by the classroom doors and at the front office at dismissal time (3:45). Make every effort to be punctual when picking up your children. Please ensure your child is aware of pickup arrangements before coming to school. Changes to routine pick up arrangements should be written in the agenda book. If a friend or relative is picking up a child from school the parent/guardian needs to notify the school or the classroom teacher by writing a note in the agenda. If you need to phone the school regarding a change in pick up for your child at the end of the day please call before 2:45 pm.

Pizza is $2.00 per slice. Students place their order with their teacher first thing Wednesday mornings. For your convenience we have tickets available that are sold in sheets of 10 for $20.00. Tickets can be purchased from the school office.
Milk sales begin on Monday, September 11th. White or chocolate milk is available for purchase at lunch time for .75 each.
Friday Hot Lunch - Starting September 22nd
September 22nd - Choice of chicken noodle soup and a bun or a turkey wrap from Main Bread and Butter. Each item is $3.25.
September 29 - Choice of a cheeseburger or crispy chicken wrap from Dairy Queen. Each item is $3.25.
