St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 3 | 2 MAY 2024
“O God, Come be with us today.
Fill our hearts with joy. Fill our minds with learning.
Fill our classrooms with peace. Fill our lessons with fun.
Fill our friendships with kindness. Fill our school with love. Amen.”
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please keep in your thoughts and Prayers our Year 4 students who will be making their First Eucharist this Sunday. This week they participated at school in their First Holy Communion Retreat. Many thanks to Mrs Pilatti and Miss Bechelli for having so well prepared. Thanks go to Monsignor and Mr Yock for organising the Mass and Retreat.
We had the Director of RE from CEWA visit the school last week. He spent some time walking around the school and was very keen to see the mural of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. We thank Mr Powell for visiting.
Thank you to our Year 6 classes for preparing the ANZAC Liturgy last Friday. It was a very fitting tribute to the soldiers past and present who protect our country and way of life.
Families, please note that you will need to adhere to the school parking policy and the street verge signage. Parking is not permitted in ‘no standing or parking‘ zones. Cars that do not follow the street and verge signage face a possible fine from the Ranger. I would also ask that if you are a Kindy parent and you have collected your child from Kindy and there are no siblings in the upper classes, could you please leave as soon as possible to free up car parking places. Your help in this matter will be very much appreciated.
A reminder that Friday May 10 is a pupil free day where parents are able to catch up with teachers re their child/ren’s progress. Please take the opportunity to meet with the teachers on this day.
God Bless and keep safe.
Allen McMahon
Principal

Student Code of Conduct
Our Student Code of Conduct is a student-created document that outlines the way students want to feel when they come to St Columba’s Primary School.
It outlines behaviours and actions students can take to ensure they continue to feel Safe, Happy, Included and Special.
The Student Code of Conduct also outlines steps a child can take if they feel a student is not following the Code of Conduct.
Students refer to the document in class meetings and the poster is visible in all classrooms.
Refreshed Families page for website
We have refreshed the information on the Families page on the website and it is now an online version of the Parent Handbook. Please browse through the page to see the topics covered.
K-6 Parent Teacher Interviews – New Booking System
Parents,
As part of the reporting procedures used at St Columba's we offer parents of children in Kindy to Year 6 (not Pre-Kindergarten) the opportunity to participate in a parent-teacher interview.
In 2024, Parent-Teacher interviews will be held for Kindy to Year 6 on Friday 10 May.
For these interviews we are using the new online Microsoft Office 365 booking system, promoted by CEWA, called ‘Bookings’ as it links directly with the teacher outlook calendar and their email account. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this new system together.
Using this system, you will be able to book the interview times that suit you best from any internet enabled device.
Please note the following points:
- A separate booking is required with each child’s teacher using the links in the newsletter. Bookings are made for individual parents/guardians, not for couples. If two parents/guardians wish to attend a single interview time slot, one parent/guardian should make the booking then both can attend.
- You will only see time slots that are available at the time you are using the system. As time slots are booked for teachers, those time slots are no longer displayed as available. This prevents double-booking of teachers or parents/guardians.
- You can log in and change bookings any time up to 5pm on Friday 3 May. Any changes after this date will need to be emailed directly to classroom teachers.
- Other parents may be making bookings while you are using the system. It is possible, though unlikely, that a time slot is displayed to you as available but is then booked by another parent shortly afterwards. If you then attempt to book this time slot it will not be available, and a message will be displayed to indicate this.
- If you encounter any problems using the new booking system please contact the classroom teacher by email as they have direct access to their booking calendar.
- Parents that have previously contacted their child’s teacher to discuss student progress are not required to book another interview. Similarly, those parents who have met for IEP/IEPM Meetings do not require another interview time.
Hi everyone,
1 week to go!!! Our Year 1 Dad's Sam and Reagan, with the support of other Year 1 families have been busy organising our wonderful Mothers Day Event for 2024 for our Kindy to Year 6 families. Mothers and Mother Figures will be spoiled with a morning of delicious food and a variety of fun activities for you and your children to enjoy. You will see the registration above in this newsletter. If you could please submit your expression of interest it will help the gents to know numbers for catering purposes.
Our next P&F meeting is next week - Tuesday, 7 May at 7pm. If you would like to see anything on the agenda, please let me know.
Have a wonderful week everyone.

DOSC Footy Tipping 2024
Hello all,
Anzac Round unfolded largely as anticipated, save for the unexpected outcome in the marquee match, resulting in our first tie of the season. It was a competitive round of predictions, with three of our tipsters achieving a perfect nine out of nine, while eight others managed to secure 8 out of 9 tips correctly.
A round of applause for our top performers in Round 7:

Ben B: Made 8 solid predictions, with a margin of 11.
In the overall standings, David B has caught in points, just behind on a margin of 69 points. With just two games separating the top six contenders, the competition for the lead is intense.
