~ DESTINATION IMAGINATION NEWS ~
* A note from Ms. Crowley - our Destination Imagination Coordinator *
Destination Imagination teams have been busy after school the past few months. Destination Imagination (DI) is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students' creativity, courage, and curiosity through open-ended academic Challenges in the fields of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, math, fine arts) and service learning. Our participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, the collaborative problem solving process, and project management. Teams showcase their challenge solutions in the form of a skit at a tournament.
We have four teams that hope to go to the state tournament on March 2. Two teams are working on the Scientific Challenge. They are creating a story about a character whose discovery of an artifact leads to a finding. They include an archaeological investigation that contributes to the finding. They are designing and creating a puppet that will portray a character from the past.
Our third team is creating a story inspired by a work of visual art. They need to include a static character and a dynamic character. They have to reimagine the famous artwork and include it in their story. The team needs to recreate a piece of kinetic art that uses technical methods to create a movement.
Our fourth team is working on a service learning challenge. They are designing and carrying out a service project that addresses a need in the community. They are writing a story about a character who goes on a quest. Included in the project is designing and creating a fantasy map that uses technical methods to represent location information from the story.
All four teams will also perform their story.
This year North Metro Flex Academy has been chosen by Disney Musicals in Schools to learn and perform the musical version Finding Nemo! This is an amazing opportunity to introduce your student to the world of theater. The show will be directed by three North Metro Flex Academy staff and two Teaching Artists hired by Disney whose expertise is in musical theater and working with students.

DESTINATION IMAGINATION NEWS!
We are excited to offer Destination Imagination again for our students!
What is Destination Imagination? Destination Imagination is project-based education. The students will be on a team of 4-7 students. Working as a team, they will choose a Challenge from one of the following categories: Technical, Scientific, Improvisational, Service Learning, Engineering, or Fine Arts. To complete the Challenge, the team will need to generate ideas, research, design, build, make decisions, work with a budget, implement their ideas, and manage their project timeline. They will utilize creativity, ingenuity, and teamwork.
Why Destination Imagination? The skills that are developed through Destination Imagination include self-confidence, creative and critical thinking, team building, collaboration and respect, problem solving, risk taking, project management, and perseverance. These skills will help prepare our young people for the future! When our young people enter the adult workforce, it is predicted 65% of the jobs that will be available do not exist today. Destination Imagination will help your child be prepared.
This year, the Destination Imagination teams will work meet on Mondays after school, from 2:00 – 4:00. We are asking students to apply online to be part of Destination Imagination. Once the student applies, his/her teacher will be asked for input.
If your child is interested, please have go to this link https://forms.gle/YmfSVEBMLAZ9p6H78 and complete the form.

School doors for parents pick up open in the afternoon: 2:00pm
PARENTS - DROP OFF AND PICK UP REMINDERS
All students must be signed in by an adult after 7:30 AM. Students will be marked tardy if they are arriving after 7:45 AM.
Any students being dropped off in the morning should be brought to the cul-de-sac on Helen Street until 7:30 AM. If you are needing to pick up your student who normally rides a bus, please call the office no later than 1pm to notify the front desk. They will get the message to their teacher.
For students who ride bus stops, your students must be at their assigned stop 5 minutes prior to the pick up time.
If your student is sick, please leave a message on the attendance line, utilize the attendance form on our website, or use the JMC Family App to submit attendance. As a general reminder, students will be sent home from school if they have a fever of 100 or over, they have vomited or have diarrhea. We may also call to ask that you pick your student up if they are not able to participate in class due to feeling ill. Students should be kept home until they are fever, vomit, or diarrhea free for 24 hours with no medication. Students who miss 3 or more days will need a doctors note.
Please call the front office if you are needing to speak with a staff member directly, or send an email to that staff member. During the day they may not be available to take a call directly but will call you back as soon they have a free moment.
