Saturday is WORLD TEACHERS DAY! WE are so very blessed at Van Raub to have some of the absolute best teachers! Each day when we are in their classrooms we are in awe of thier skill set, their love of their students, devotion to academic excellence, passion for learning and their modeling of kindness and empathy. This job can be a tough one, the time and energy being poured into the students, the worry and loss of sleep due to focusing on student needs. But there are also all of the "this is why I do this moments!" Those are the moments that matter- the light bulb going off moments, the learning to read, the continuation of science exploration and problem solving after a lesson in class, the student smiles and success! The list could go on and on!

Being a teacher doesn't have you rolling in dough, but it certainly is an important and noble profession with the opportunity to impact lives and build the future. I am sure that we can all remember one of those special teachers in our lives, think about it! For me it was two special folks- my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Mitzi McAfee and one of my 6th grade teachers, Mrs. Brenda Thomas. They truly helped to shape me to who I am and for that I will be forever grateful. With that said, I want to say that I am so very grateful to have all of the teacher rock stars that we have here at VRES touching the lives of our roadrunners! Happy World Teacher's Day to all of these beautiful humans on our staff!

In order to help with inventory management, A couple times per year the school will forgo the district menu and do a Manager’s Special in the cafertia during holiday weeks. Oct 16 and 17th will be having Manager’s Special. We will still have a combination of multiply chooses of entrée with fresh fruit, vegetables and milk. It just will not be following the district website. The Preorders system will also be down during this time. Thanks for your cooperation.

Roadrunner Dash - October 10

Thank you to all our kids and families that have given so generously to the Roadrunner Dash. Dash Day is coming soon, here's a few details to share.

Parents are welcome to come watch their kids come run the obstacles. Additionally, we need volunteers to make this event successful. If you sign up during your child's race time you will be able to see them! Please help make this event successful:

Dash Times:

Pre-K/Life Skills: 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.

5th Grade: 8:35 a.m. - 9:25 a.m.

4th Grade: 9:25 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.

3rd Grade: 10:20 a.m. - 11:10 a.m.

Kinder: 12:15 p.m. - 1:05 p.m.

1st Grade: 1:15 p.m. - 2:05 p.m.

2nd Grade: 2:10 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

RR Dash Shirts

All students will receive a new Van Raub Shirt to wear on Dash Day. They will receive the morning of the race so shirts don't go home and get lost.

PTO Merchandise Clearance Sale

We will be hosting a clearance sale during the Roadrunner Dash on October 10th. Stop by the PTO booth to check out the clearance items. There are a lot of adult sizes too! Prices starting at $5.

Roadrunner Dash - Dash Day volunteer spots

The Roadrunner Dash Day is October 10th! We love having our parents come and watch their kids run the dash, and volunteer too! We need 18 volunteers per grade level. If you want to watch your child, you may want to volunteer or a different grade level.

Bulverde Pumpkin Patch Spirit Day - October 11

Bulverde Pumpkin Patch is hosting a Van Raub Spirit Day on October 11th. You can purchase your entry for $20/car. If you're headed out of town for Fall break, you can still purchase admission online on the 11th and attend later in the month. Bulverde Pumpkin Patch is donating back to Van Raub PTO for any paid admission. Please see the flyer attached.

Book Fair - Volunteers Needed

The Fall Book Fair kicks off on Monday, October 21st, with pre-view day on Friday, October 18th. Volunteers are needed to help during the week.

Running club (grades 3-5) will be on Wednesdays from 3:00-3:45 starting October 16th. The students will be picked up at the bus loop. Sign up link:

Please complete this form if your child is interested in being in Kindness Counts club this year. We will meet on the 1st Monday of each month, from October through April (excluding January) from 3:10-3:50 at the library. Our first meeting will be held on Monday, October 7th.

The VRES Roadrunner Choir! We will meet on Monday afternoons from 3:00pm to 3:45pm in the VRES music room. Our first rehearsal will be on Monday, September 30, 2024. Fourth and fifth grade students who are interested in participating in this performing group will need to plan a ride home for this first rehearsal. Pick up will be in the Dietz Elkhorn car Loop. Choir will meet regularly throughout the year. We will have a busy schedule singing in the Boerne/San Antonio area.

District funds are not budgeted for Choir since this is an extra-curricular activity. The total expense for choir will be $35 for the year.

National Anthem @ San Antonio SPURS game Vs Pelicans: Saturday Mar 15th 7:30pm Frost Bank Center. (you will have to order tickets to this game for your singer and anyone else to attend. Limit 50 singers so it will be first come, first *Sing*)

All-District Elementary Choir invitational: TBD April, 6pm Champion HS auditorium

Roadrunner Choir Spring Concert: May 1st, 6pm VRES Cafeteria
