VOGELTOWN SCHOOL PANUI
TE KURA O HUATOKI. TERM 2, WEEK 5, 2024.
KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU!
Kia ora koutou parents and whānau.
Thank you for looking after your children today. I understand the inconvenience this can cause, however it was an important opportunity for our teachers to continue their journey with Te Mātaiaho | the refreshed curriculum. Today, we have taken time to revisit the whakapapa of Te Mātaiaho | the refreshed curriculum, unpacked the recently announced educational priorities, and started the process of delving into the science of learning.
The Ministry of Education is a few years into the curriculum refresh process. Te Mātaiaho | the refreshed curriculum will support students to experience success in their learning. It has been designed to give practical effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, be inclusive, and clear about the learning that matters.
With the change in government, some aspects are currently being reviewed by the Ministerial Advisory Group, which will make recommendations to the Minister of Education. English and Mathematics and Statistics are two such areas.
Refreshed curriculum areas will be released in phases, and schools and kura will have until the beginning of 2027 to start using the fully refreshed curriculum.
Have a lovely King's Birthday weekend - I hope that you can make the most of the extra time you'll have by connecting with family and friends, or maybe just slowing the pace of life for an extra day or two!
Mā te wā. Bye for now!

TUG OF WAR WHANAU CHALLENGE
Last Friday saw everyone gather at the senior school, amidst much hype, singing and dancing, for the tug of war whānau challenge. It was 'mate against mate' as the children of each whānau group competed against each other under the watchful eye of Mr George who was judging the matches...with a little pressure from some very competitive teachers! A big shout out goes to Mr Bishop for the extraordinary dance moves he pulled out to gangnam style too! So how did it all end up?

DADS AND DAUGHTERS
We are continuing the tradition of the bi-annual ‘Dads and Daughters’ breakfast. It is going to be held on Friday 21st June at 7:30am in the school hall.
This event is generously supported by the Vogeltown Home and School Committee and it is great to see our community spirit come alive at this time!
We invite all ‘daughters’ at school to come along with their Dad or significant other adult male (such as their grandad, uncle, cousin, brother) to enjoy some quality time together. We will also have a group of ‘surrogate Dads’ available - local police officers, Taranaki rugby players and some of our own teachers - on this day for those daughters who are unable to have someone with them on this morning.
It's something you don't want to miss so mark it on the calendar now! A notice has been sent home so please return this to school as soon as possible to help us with our organisation.
MORE GREAT WRITING BY ROOM 13!
Great effort with the animal reports by the children of Room 13. I was lucky to enough to visit while these were being researched and drafted and all of the children were engaged and enthusiastic to share their work. Take a look at a couple of these yourself...
KEEP LEARNING THOSE SPELLATHON WORDS!
Just a reminder about the Spellathon - this is a fantastic learning opportunity, as well as a great fundraiser for our school! We are encouraging our tamariki to practise their spelling words regularly for when they get tested next week! Thank you for your support, whānau!
