Welcome to Spring Break, Falcons! It's been a spirited week here at Fletcher Elementary School capped off by a phenomenal family friday. Thank you to all who came out to enjoy breakfast with your student and stay for Java with Jeff. School will be closed next week as we gear up to finish the last nine weeks of the school year.

On Wednesday, we received an award for winning the SDUSD Recycling Challenge. We made the greatest improvement in reducing waste and increasing the amount of recycling done on campus. The award came with a $250 check from Republic Services, our provider of trash/recycling disposal. Great job, Falcons!

When we return, our students will be buckling down to give it their all on the Spring assessments. On Wednesday, the 10th, 3rd-5th grade will take the FAST reading assessment. This will give us immediate feedback on how much growth they've made in reading fluency and comprehension. The K-2nd graders will take the assessment throughout the following two weeks. CAASPP testing, the CA state assessments, begins on April 16th, for our 3rd-5th graders. They'll start with the math sections, then have a break, and pick up with the Language Arts assessments on April 30th. Our 5th graders will join 8th and 11th graders state-wide on May 7th when they take the Science portion.

THANK YOU families who completed both the Leader in me Measurable Results Assessment and the California Healthy Kids survey. We surpassed our goal of 70% participation! This information is incredibly important for shaping the programming and learning environment for our students.

Lastly, congratulations to 4th GRADE for winning the final week of the March Madness reading challenge. They're at a total of 33,808 pages!

This week's Student of the Week is Angel in Mr. León's 5th grade class. Angel is an ingenious student who constantly displays an interest in hands-on activities. He has an innate talent for making artifacts, toys, or any gadget that comes to mind. In addition, Angel loves participating in math class discussions and always cooperates with his classmates whenever they need his assistance to assemble a device or solve a math problem. He is also willing to excel in reading and writing. Angel follows the school's expectations in and out of the classroom. Overall, Angel is an outstanding Falcon student, and we are all proud of him!. Thank you, Angel, for being such an incredible Falcon by exemplifying what it means to be a leader at Fletcher Elementary School!
