Belonging in D103
Good Evening D103 Families,
In May 2023, a Belonging survey was distributed to students in grades 5-8 to gain deeper insights into students' sense of belonging within the D103 community. The concept of belonging encompasses two crucial elements: (1) understanding one's authentic self, and (2) being in an environment that supports the expression of this authentic self.
The survey findings are essential to our work in schools as research shows a strong link between the sense of belonging and its impact on mental well-being, academic performance, and the reduction of high-risk behaviors.
Survey Results
Please view this video presentation (16 minutes) by Dr. Katie Reynolds, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, as she describes the importance of fostering student belonging and reviews key insights from the survey results. Families are also welcome to review the survey questions and response percentages.

On the 15th of November, the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee for Equitable Education (SACEE) and PTO’s Parent Education committees will co-host a virtual parent presentation featuring Sabrina Rahman, a management consultant and former leader at the Federal Reserve. Building upon the findings of the Spring 2023 SACEE survey of D103 students, this presentation will offer a practical roadmap for parents to engage and model their child's understanding of belonging. Additionally, you will gain insights into the pivotal role that a student's sense of belonging plays in their overall success and how parents can actively support this fundamental need.
Following the presentation, Sabrina will be joined by Dr. Reynolds and Mrs. Kendra Perri, Principal of Daniel Wright, to address your questions and concerns related to fostering a sense of belonging in our schools. Please register in advance for the Power of Belonging in D103 virtual presentation.
Thank you for your support in raising our Leaders in Learning.
