Negley Mission Statement
CAPTAIN CROWTHER'S CORNER
Ahoy Parents!
The month of October is upon us! This is our month of parent/teacher conferences, enjoying cooler weather, and an EXPOLSION of our Lost and Found! Now is the perfect time to label your child's sweaters, hoodies, jackets, etc. - We need first initial and last name. This will help our House leaders to locate your child and return their item. It will also ensure that if you visit lost and found, you are actually taking your child's item. It's easier using last name, because we have multiple students with the same first name! As a reminder - at the end of the 9 weeks period, we will have our Lost and Found in the Lobby event for 1 week. Anything that is left will be donated to Hays Clothes Closet or Goodwill. Thanks for helping us, help you, with lost and found.
Enjoy your parent conference time with your teacher. They have lots of great things to share about your child - including things to work on!
Thank you for sharing your sweet little ones with us!
Mrs. Crowther
HOW'D WE DO LAST WEEK?

Library News!
Hello Awesome Navigator Families,
We are excited to continue our celebration of National Hispanic Heritage month in the library! Students in 3rd through 5th grade are learning about Jovita Valdovinos, a Mexican freedom fighter who defied her times and helped protect religious freedom. Jovita Wore Pants is a Texas Bluebonnet Book we read together and helps students meet their pizza party goals.
Students with September and October birthdays are receiving invitations to participate in our Birthday Book Club. This is a great way to celebrate the special day with a lasting memory in the library. Participating students will have the opportunity to select a book from our collection of brand-new titles. The student “lives on” in our library through a special bookplate sticker that is placed in the front of the book including their name, birthday, and picture. Their birthday book is enjoyed by many students for years to come.
Calling All Volunteers!
The Book Fair is fast approaching! We are looking for volunteers in any capacity for set up, student-previews, sales, and take-down. Book Fair is a magical experience for all readers, help create magical memories in the Negley Library and sign up today!

District Guidelines - Toy Weapons
From our Student Services Director, Brian Dawson:
We are seeing students bring their toy weapons to school. Specifically, toy guns and lasers. They have not used them as a threat toward anyone. However, these items can cause fear with the current time we are living in.
A replica of a weapon, such as a toy gun, is not a weapon. However, a student can receive both campus consequences for bringing the item(s) to campus, on a bus, or a school-sponsored event. If the item is thought to be or represented as a real weapon, a student could go to our District Alternative Education Program.
In our student code of conduct, it states:
Possession of Prohibited Items
Students shall not possess or use:
- Fireworks of any kind, smoke or stink bombs, or any other pyrotechnic device;
- A razor, box cutter, chain, or any other object used in a way that threatens or inflicts bodily injury to another person;
- A “look-alike” weapon that is intended to be used as a weapon or could reasonably be perceived as a weapon;
- An air gun or BB gun;
- Ammunition;
- A hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;
- A firearm silencer or suppressor;
- A location-restricted knife;
- A club;
- A firearm;
- A firearm silencer or suppressor;
- A stun gun;
- Knuckles;
- A pocket knife or any other small knife;
- Mace or pepper spray;
- Pornographic material;
- Tobacco products, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and any component, part, or accessory for an e-cigarette device (HB 114 requires mandatory placement in a DAEP for any offenses related to e-cigarettes);
- Matches or a lighter;
- A laser pointer, unless it is for an approved use; or
- Any articles not generally considered to be weapons, including school supplies, when the principal or designee determines that a danger exists.
