Athletic Awards
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch sponsors the Scholar Athlete Award. Each high school in the St. Louis area is invited to select a student who exemplifies the best in athletics and in scholarship. At North High, our coaches nominate student athletes based on academics, athletic honors and citizenship. Each head coach is allowed one vote to determine our winner.
Patrick McCollum had a huge part in the back to back conference championships in swimming the last two years. This year he broke a 30 year old school record for the 100 Freestyle. He was a state qualifier in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 medley relay, and the 400 freestyle relay. He placed 4th overall in the 100 freestyle and 10th overall in the 50 freestyle at the state championships. He also received varsity conference player of the year and 1st team all conference in Water Polo. He has not only been a great contributor athletically for the team but a great leader. He also excels in the classroom and is a true example of a student athlete.
Congratulations, Patrick.
TRI-ATHLETE AWARD
The Tri-Athlete Award is given annually to any student who earns a varsity letter on three different athletic teams in one school year. At a time when athletes are often pressured by outside teams to specialize in a sport, this award represents dedication to North High and the athletic ability it takes to perform at high level in multiple sports. We currently have over 500 students in our athletic program, but only these four individuals have earned a varsity letter in three different sports this year. Thank you for the commitment you have given to our athletic program.
This year's recipients are:
Freshman Andie Hylan (cross country, basketball, soccer, track)
Sophomore Daria Panov (tennis, swim, water polo)
Junior Everett Cui (football, basketball, golf)
Junior Anton Dunlap (football, basketball, golf)
Senior Henry Mohrmann (football, basketball, volleyball)
Senior Henry Reeves (soccer, football, basketball, volleyball)
GOLUB - LINNEMAN - FUGATE AWARD
The Golub-Linneman-Fugate Award is given annually to a senior girl involved in athletics, with outstanding character and leadership abilities. Bari Golub, Diane Linneman, and Barb Fugate were excellent athletes and wonderful role models in the early years of our school. This award was created by the coaching staff in 1980 and the recipient is nominated by the head coaches each year.
This year’s recipient is: Allison Lam
Allison is an exceptional student and athlete at Parkway North High school. Over Allison’s last four years, she received 2nd team All Conference Sophomore year and 1st team All Conference Junior & Senior years for Girls Golf. She placed 3rd at the Parkway Quad and placed 4th at the conference tournament. She made Varsity for Girls Golf all 4 years and was the captain her senior year. She is also the President of National Honors Society and the founder and president of the Asian Culture Club and a member of Mu Alpha Theta for the last three years. Considering her achievements and successes at North High, I’m confident Allison will continue to experience greatness with her future endeavors.
Well done, Allison.
DONNELLY - EDELMAN - MONTGOMERY AWARD
The Donnelly-Edelman-Montgomery Award is given annually to a senior boy involved in athletics with outstanding character and leadership abilities. In the 1970’s, Terry Donnelly, Brad Edelman, and Dan Montgomery were excellent athletes who continued to be wonderful role models as they competed in college and beyond. This award was also created by the coaching staff in 1980 and the recipient is nominated by the head coaches each year.
This year’s recipient is: Henry Mohrmann
Henry has demonstrated excellent leadership as a member of our football, basketball, and boys volleyball teams. Over Henry’s senior year, he was recognized by the MFCA as 3rd Team All State Class 4 Tight End, Class 4 District 4 All District Team, Class 4 Academic All State, and SLMFCA recognized Henry as 1st Team All Tight End. He was also recognized as 1st Team All Conference Tight End for Junior and Senior years. He was a participant in the American Cancer Society All Star Game and has signed with Washburn University to play football next year. Along with these accomplishments, Henry has also shown great leadership and high character in the classroom and the North High community.
Congratulations, Henry.
The MSHSAA - Exemplary Sportsmanship & Integrity Award is awarded to seniors who display exemplary sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity. Morgan Robinson and Darric Smith have displayed great sportsmanship through participation in their activities and have been positive role models for all students at North High.
Congratulations, Morgan and Darric.
Ted Matkin Award
The Ted Matkin Award is given to two outstanding recipients. Ted was a long time friend to North High, dedicating over 13 years to athletics, specifically Boys Basketball. Ted’s legacy is to help college bound scholar athletes achieve their academic and athletic dreams. These recipients must excel athletically, earning at least one Varsity letter and academically, ranking in the top 25% of the class. This year’s recipients are Emily Koo and Patrick McCollum.
Congratulations, Emily and Patrick.
