National Honors Society and National Junior Honors Society News - Apply for Membership
Now that we are back to school, that means that NJHS and NHS will soon be back in session as well.
Membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to our excelling students. The Central Valley NHS and NJHS chapters strive to give practical meaning to the Society’s standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These ideals are considered the basis for selection. Membership, however, is more than an honor. It is an ongoing responsibility and an obligation to continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that result in a student’s selection.
Students will participate in group service projects, attend monthly meetings, and continue individual community service projects. NHS and NJHS are eager to accept New Member Applications! Eligible students in grades 10-12 with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and above for NHS or grades 7-9 and a GPA of 3.0 and above for NJHS can apply.
Our faculty council will be evaluating applications in October. The deadline for applications is October 4th. If your student is eligible and would like to apply, please reach out to Michele Crews at michele.crews@yosemitevalleycharter.org, representing both Central schools. She is eager to send you the new membership application and tell you more about this wonderful leadership opportunity for your students.

ID Cards for Primary Students
Last year the school sent a physical ID card to all elementary students that did not include a date so we could use them again. This school year all newly enrolled students will have one made and sent to them to use for event check in and whatever else they may need them for. The elementary IDs do not include a photo, just their name, student ID number and school name.
An alternaitve to the phyiscal card is just using the digital ID card the school sent out with the QR code. You can screenshot and save it for easy check-in at events. For September you will likely not receive ID cards for new students, so plan to use the digital one for events. It is also not necessary to use one at all. We can check enrolled students in without it, just a stitch slower.

Academic Adventure (Field Trips) Reminders and Tutorials
The school board implemented a policy last spring for one field trip per semester so more people could attend, this policy provides equity. Many families would go on all the trips and take away opportunities from others becase they were aware of when the trips went live and knew right where to log in and register quickly enough.
The purpose of school sponsored Academic Adventures is to learn together and build community. Therefore, we removed all self-guided trips because families can do those on their own. All of our trips will be educational and build community. Each trip this year and moving forward will have an interactive piece for students and parents to get to know each other. For example, if we go to the Fresno Zoo we are taking a class together and might be meeting for lunch. Our solution is to point families to going on their own self guided trips using the ordering system to place a product order. Here is a video to show how to place the order. We also made a BIG LIST of Ideas to share!
The school has been encouraging parents to use the Facebook page to plan a trip together, too. The bottom line is families can go on one school-sponsored trip per semester but can go on as many as they want with teacher approval using the OS.
24-25 Academic Adventures!
Academic Adventures for the 24-25 school year are available now! Visit adventures.centralvcs.org to review the updated instructional field trip policy, and get a sneak peak of this year’s line up of educational adventures!
The BIG List of Academic Adventure Ideas
The schools are enhancing their academic trips this year to make them more enriching and engaging! With a focus on quality over quantity, there will be fewer school-sponsored trips, but parents can still take advantage of OS funds to explore educational destinations with their students. And with a Big List of ideas available, there are plenty of opportunities for learning and making new friends. Sounds like a fantastic way to make the most of the school year!

Academic Integrity
Our school urges students to conduct themselves ethically and honorably. It is expected that the grade a student earns is based on work the student has completed. Teachers can use Grammarly or other plagiarism checker websites. Please review the definition of plagiarism as outlined in the 24-25 School Handbook located on our website under Resources.
