PreACT 8/9 test October 9 (8th grade only)
Our 8th graders will be taking the PreACT 8/9 test on Wednesday, October 9, at school.
As you may be aware, the state of Illinois shifted from the SAT to the ACT for this school year. Instead of taking the PSAT 8/9 as our 8th graders have done in previous years, they will now take the preACT 8/9 test.
We will administer this test to all 8th graders here at Glen Crest on October 9. Below you can see the tests they will take, as well as the schedule for the day. For information on this test, and how Glenbard South will be using the data, please review this slide deck from our Curriculum Night on August 27.
It is important to note, GBS and District 87 use this test for placement in courses for the 2025-26 school year. Please encourage your students to do their best on the test.
There isn't any prep work available for the test, but if you are interested in resources, please visit the ACT website.
Cheer tryouts at 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 8
An informational meeting for all athletes and their parents interested in trying out for the Glen Crest cheerleading team will be held on Tuesday, October 8, at 5 p.m. in Spartan Hall. Tryouts are open to all 7th and 8th graders, and attendance is highly encouraged! Tryouts will be held October 22, 23, and 24. Please reach out to Mrs. Semorile (lsemorile@ccsd89.org) or Ms. Schmidt (aschmidt@ccsd89.org) for more information.

Sixth-grade health forms information
As a reminder, all sixth graders are required to turn in an updated physical form by October 15. This physical needs to be completed on the State of Illinois Child Examination form and must list their up-to-date immunizations. At the age of 11, the State of Illinois requires children to receive Tdap and meningococcal. These should also be listed on their immunization form.
The physical could have taken place any time after August 23, 2023, and will cover the student for sports. A sports physical does not cover for the 6th grade requirement.
Questions? Look on the District’s website under Department-> Health Services-> Sixth Grade regulations or email nlenocker@ccsd89.org
2024-25 yearbooks will be ordered online from Lifetouch
We are going to do our yearbook orders a little bit differently this year. Orders will be placed online directly with Lifetouch, which is the company we work with to develop the yearbook. We hope to have this information available for parents on supply pick up days. See the flyer for details.

District will conduct phone test at 8:30 a.m. Friday, October 11
CCSD 89 will conduct the annual test of the district’s emergency phone contact system at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 11. Students will not be in school that day because of conferences. This test is designed to ensure that the district has accurate phone numbers for the families of all students.
On October 11, every guardian should receive a recorded voice message on the phone numbers registered with the district. This is the phone number that would be called in the event of an emergency, such as a weather-related closing. There is no need to respond to the phone message. However, if you do not receive the call by 10 a.m. Friday, October 11, contact your school secretary to ensure that the school has your correct information.
Halloween costume reminders
Students are allowed to dress up at school for Halloween. Elementary students can wear costumes after lunch; middle school students can dress up all day. We ask that costumes be non-violent and school-appropriate. Costumes should not include swords, guns, knives, clubs, lasers, or any other type of weapon. All costumes and masks must be designed for safety and adequate vision.
Tips for a productive parent-teacher conference
Fall conferences will be held in the evening on Thursday, October 10, and during the day on Friday, October 11. Conferences are a great opportunity to learn more about your child’s experiences at school and how you can help at home. If you are looking for ideas on preparing for conferences or sample questions to ask, Colorín Colorado has created some helpful guides. English Español ردو हिन्दी

Tragedy can affect a nation or a single family. Some crises happen suddenly while others build over time. Each situation can be difficult for children to understand and challenging for families to navigate. Our school has a counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help students and families with strategies for transparent, age-appropriate conversations. The district has also posted additional resources at www.ccsd89.org/crisis
