MUMS Family Newsletter
April 5, 2024
Dear MUMS community,
Thank you so much for your flexibility this week with all of the changes. It's such a good indication of the time of year!
We wrap up VTCAP testing this afternoon and appreciate the time, energy and thought that students and staff put into taking the test seriously. It can feel like a stressful engagement for many, but the state, district and schoolwide data is useful to us! Next week our 8th graders will wrap up testing by completing the Science test during their Science classes.
Lastly, next week we will mail home Quarter 3 report cards. Please reach out to Michaela with process and procedural questions and your child's teacher about grade specific questions.
Thanks for all you do to support your student and MUMS!
If you have questions generally, please reach out to us at mwisell@acsdvt.org (Michaela)
or zjerome@acsdvt.org (Zach) or dhunt@acsdvt.org (Dustin) or by calling the MUMS office at 802-382-1600 or by visiting the MUMS website for more information.

From our MYP Coordinators
Last week in Language and Literature, our 7th graders brought A Midsummer Night’s Dream to life with direction from Lindsay Pontius from Courageous Stage. They acted, read, and discussed the language of Shakespeare’s work and how the rhythm of iambic pentameter mimics a heartbeat and impacts the feel of a scene. Students had a lot of fun and showed their ability to be open-minded risk-takers, and will continue this work both in class lessons and at the Town Hall Theatre in mid-April, where they will connect to the play through acting and songwriting workshops. Below, you can see Lindsay directing two students in an acting exercise. Thank you to the Team 2 and Team 3 7th graders for engaging so well, and shout out to Emily Blistein for attending one of Mrs. Haugan’s classes and taking photos!

ACSD Schools Will Close on April 8 for the Eclipse
We have decided to cancel all ACSD schools for the entire day on Monday, April 8, 2024. We originally planned for an early dismissal on April 8, however updates from state and local public safety officials indicate significant disruptions to travel, communication, and emergency response. These warnings coupled with expected staffing shortages for that day prompted us to prioritize the safety and well-being of ACSD students and staff by closing school.
Our teachers and staff have done an incredible job preparing our students for this rare event. We have compiled resources on our Eclipse Page to support students and families. We look forward to hearing students' reflections when they return to school on Tuesday.

Eighth Grade End of Year Trip
This is a reminder that our 8th grade trip will be to Boston this year. This trip will offer students an opportunity to experience a world-class city and all of the cultural experiences that comes along with it. Additionally, this trip will help us provide closure to the class of 2028 as they move to the high school. All of the fundraisers listed these last few months go toward to this trip to Boston, so thanks for your support and generosity.
