Hello From Principal Bissue
Exciting news from LGCS!
ππππππππππππππππ
Welcome to February!
Hello, LGCS Families and Community,
February has arrived, bringing new opportunities for learning, growth, and connection. Weβve had a strong start to the year, and Iβm grateful for our students, staff, and families' dedication to making our school a place of success and support.
I invite you to join me for Pastries with the Principal on Monday, February 10th. This is a great opportunity to connect, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversations. I hope to see many of you there!
This is a quick reminder that school will be closed on Monday, February 17th, in observance of Presidentsβ Day. I hope everyone takes the time to rest and recharge.
As we move through the month, please keep in mind that Colorado weather can be unpredictable. Stay tuned for any school updates, and ensure your contact information is current for weather-related notifications. Weβre also seeing an increase in seasonal illnesses, so letβs work together to keep everyone healthy by encouraging good habits and keeping sick students home when necessary.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Letβs make February a great month!

Upcoming Safety Committee Meeting
Our next Safety Committee meeting will be held in February. As a reminder, the Safety Committee is made up of appointed members who meet to discuss safety concerns and address important issues that need attention. Together, we work to identify solutions that help maintain a safe environment for everyone in our school community.
Successful Emergency Drill
Iβm happy to report that our recent "I Love U Guys" Emergency Drill was a big success! Both students and staff did an outstanding job following the safety protocols. These drills are an important part of ensuring that everyone is prepared in the event of an emergency. Great job to everyone involved!
Grant Applications for Safety Upgrades
I am currently working on applying for grants to fund important upgrades to our schoolβs safety and security systems. These updates are a top priority and will ensure that we continue to provide a secure environment for our students, staff, and visitors. Iβll provide updates on the grant process and any future improvements in upcoming newsletters.
Meeting Our New District Safety Coordinator
Later this month, I will have the opportunity to meet Patrick Cooper, the new Safety Coordinator for RE-2 Park County. I look forward to working with him and discussing ways we can enhance safety across our district. His collaboration will undoubtedly help us strengthen our security initiatives.
Thank you for your continued support and trust as we work hard to maintain a safe and secure school environment. Iβm proud to be a part of this amazing school.
Stay safe,
Christy Cornell

Message from the Kitchen
Dear Families,
We are making a few adjustments to help our food services run more efficiently while continuing to provide nutritious and balanced meals for our students. Chef James has been working hard to ensure all meals meet the healthy lunch regulations set by CDE, with appropriate serving sizes based on age ranges following a 2,000-calorie diet.
We understand that growing students have big appetites, and we are committed to offering a variety of healthy choices each month. However, to ensure proper portioning and meal availability for all students, we have stopped second servings for lunch until further notice.
For breakfast, students may receive a meal (cereal or the hot breakfast that is served), and if they would like cereal as a second serving for a snack later, they are welcome to take oneβbut this option will only be available during breakfast service.
Families, please watch for an invoice coming home with your child if there are any additional charges on their lunch accounts. Students eat breakfast and lunch for free this year. However, additional milk, water, or other items beyond the standard meal. Scan the QR code to pay with PayPal. Please note your child's name in the comments for that payment. Feel free to send cash or check with your child if you prefer. If you have any questions about these charges, please contact Heather Olivares, our business manager.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we continue working to improve our food service operations.
Thank you,
LGCS Kitchen Team

Future City Students Compete at Regionals
This year, LGCS sent a team from each middle school grade; 6th grade was represented by Parker G, Matthew H, and David B: Iliamna City, 7th grade Blake B., Jonah D. and Jaxon MacDonald; Atlantis Island Park, and 8th grade Michael B; Solar Island City. They all had amazing presentations and models. The 7th grade team won the Dream Big special award. Official results have not yet been released so we don't have their 'places' but we are super proud of their work, nonetheless. They competed with 30 teams from Colorado and Wyoming and presented to judges from engineering careers across the state. Overall a great showing of LGCS' STEM programs!

School Closure Information
School closing due to weather or other emergencies
LGCS may need to close for a variety of reasons that are out of our immediate control.
Some of those reasons might be:
1. Weather Conditions: Snow, icy roads, and/or wind.
2. Boiler, plumbing, or emergency alarm systems.
3. Other emergencies deemed by the Administrator/Superintendent to warrant the school to close.
Inclement Weather Before School Starts
If a decision is made to cancel or delay school, initial phone calls will be made as early as possible. For evening notifications, we aim to send messages by 9:00 pm, while morning notifications will go out by 5:30 am. Any delay or closure information will also be posted on our website at www.lakegeorgecharterschool.com and shared with local TV stations. Additionally, you will receive an email and/or phone call, depending on the preference you selected during registration. If you arenβt receiving these notifications but believe you should be, please see Mrs. Kris or Mrs. April in the front office so we can ensure your contact information is up-to-date.
For a delayed start, the school will open at 9:30 am. Please do not drop off your children before this time, as there will be no supervision available. On delayed-start days, breakfast will not be served.
In the event of a 2-hour delay, we ask that families use their best judgment regarding safe travel. With families traveling from different areas around Park and Teller County, we understand that road conditions can vary significantly. Please prioritize your familyβs safety and call the school if you decide itβs best to stay home. This helps us ensure that everyone is accounted for and allows us to adjust our student count accordingly.
