A note from the Principal
The first two weeks of school have flown by. Our students and staff have been working hard at
establishing positive relationships, building routines, and learning how to be prepared to learn.
As we enter week three, we will begin to distribute student iPads. Please make sure all student fines are paid and the technology agreement is submitted. We will also will begin benchmark testing for all students K-6. This testing will take place within the classroom and will help us make educational decisions about how to best support your child’s learning at Disney.
A few reminders:
- For a variety of reasons a child may need a change of clothes at school. We encourage parents to keep a spare outfit in their child's backpack in case of an accident. This will help prevent a call home for a change of clothes.
- Please label all your students belongings. This includes water bottles, lunch boxes, sweatshirts, coats, back packs, etc. This will help ensure we can return lost items to your child!
- The delivery of food and beverages from outside vendors or fast-food establishments for a students's breakfast or lunch meal are NOT allowed. All meals are to be provided by either our food service program or prepared at home and sent with your student.
- Due to student food allergies, Birthday Treats are not allowed to be brought in and shared with classmates. Students are welcome to bring in a non-food birthday treat to share.
I would like to thank the entire Disney Community for a great start to the 24-25 school year!
With Disney Pride,
Mrs. Porter
Principal
Parking Lot Reminders
At this time, Kelly Road is still restricted to northbound traffic only; however, we will have access to our parking lot. When entering our parking lot, please enter the south bus loop, which has traditionally been the exit. At the end of the day, exit left through the traditional entrance, to continue north down Kelly.
Below are a few guidelines for us all as we work together to continue making our parking lot operation the best it can be.
- Always practice patience and tolerance and remember you are in the presence of children; your actions and words do not go unnoticed.
- Please stay as far right as possible when in the car drop-off/pick-up line. Thru traffic will utilize the left (inside) lane to exit.
- Do not park in the car drop-off/pick-up line as this line must always be a continuous flow. Please continue to move with the line and pull all the way forward in the drop-off/pick-up zone to allow for more students to enter/exit vehicles.
- Children should exit and enter on the sidewalk side (passenger side of car).
- When utilizing the parking spaces, please refrain from pulling forward to exit. The lot is designed to back out of parking spaces and utilize the left lane for thru traffic.
- Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all our students and families.

iPad Update
iPad distribution will begin on Monday, September 9th. If you have any unpaid fines, please pay them as soon as possible. Please talk with your child about where their "home base" will be to charge the iPad each night. iPads should come to school fully charged each day.
A technology agreement MUST be on file for each student before they will be issued an iPad and charger. If you are new to Disney, including all kindergarten students, or if you would like to change your students opt-out status, please fill out the Technology Agreement linked below
Please mail Mrs. Cichocki at Dorothy.cichocki@fraserk12.org if you have any additional questions regarding student iPads.
September is Attendance Awareness Month
Lifelong Attendane Habits Starts Now!
Chronic absenteeism is considered a hidden educational crisis in the U.S. According to Attendance Works, research shows that when students are chronically absent (missing 10% or more of the school year or 18 days over an entire school year), they are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve in middle school and graduate from high school.
Children with good attendance (9 or fewer days absent per year) typically:
- Maintain quality friendships
- Are less anxious about school
- Are more confident
- Are higher achieving
- GRADUATE!
- Experience success in the work force and in LIFE!
Throughout this first month of school, strive for your child to have perfect attendance (unless, of course, your child falls ill). Work with your child to set a regular bedtime, develop morning routines that will help set them up for success, develop backup plans for getting to school, and schedule non-emergency appointments and extended vacations when schools not in-session. If your child is feeling anxious/nervous to attend school, reach out to the school for help; it's important students attend school everyday unless they are truly sick.
Remember, all absences count toward chronic absenteeism, even if you call the attendance line or provide documentation. In Fraser, we continue to work hard to decrease chronic absenteeism- which in turn benefits ALL students!
Daily Attendance
Calling in your child sick? Please call the attendance line at any time of day at 586-439-6490. Utilizing the attendance line will assist our office staff with making sure attendance records are accurate and eliminate distractions to the office. Thank you for your help and utilizing the attendance line!
Birthday Treat Policy
Birthdays are special celebrations at any age; however, with food allergies and restrictions and the critical demand for learning time—NO FOOD items will be allowed for birthday celebrations. Please do not send them. We will celebrate students’ birthdays in other ways.
Dress Code Reminders
As a reminder, our dress code is a district policy, which is accessible as part of our Student Code of Conduct. The purpose of our dress code is to make sure that our students are dressed for learning success. Parents will be called to bring a change of clothing when students do not follow the district policy. Below are some of the most pertinent dress code guidelines. The following types of clothing are inappropriate for school and WILL NOT BE ALLOWED :
- Hats, caps, hoods, bandannas, or other head coverings
- See-through clothing or clothing that reveals students’ midriffs, bottoms, or undergarments
- Shorts, skirts and dresses shorter than the tip of the student’s index finger when arms are hanging down.
- Clothes or accessories displaying offensive words and symbols including those related to alcohol, illegal/controlled substances, tobacco products, weapons, sexual references and/or language disruptive to the educational process.
- Beach-type footwear with exposed toes that can be dangerous during recess play. Sandals with heel straps are allowed.

CARE is a resource in our community that helps families and individuals who are experiencing difficulties with mental health or substance abuse. CARE's Student Assistance program offers families the opportunity to receive a thorough assessment for children who are experiencing mental health issues. CARE will then provide resources to assist with concerns. CARE also is a great place to attend parenting classes for Early Childhood through Teen. Specialty classes related to anger management and play and learn groups for younger children are also programs provided through CARE.
