Call for Recipes!
Gina is excited to invite the congregation to our Nov 27th "Share a beloved recipe, share your heart" service. A service where we will be Recipe Sharing and cooking up some joy, good music and thankfulness at the UU!
Gina is inviting all congregation members to please share a beloved or favorite "recipe" for the upcoming Nov 27 service!
You can email your recipe to: music@uucsjs.org or upload it to the shared folder HERE.
Please keep it to a maximum of one recipe per person, feel free to include a short explanation of what makes it beloved (if you like). Even if it's only because it's your favorite dish to eat! It can be sweet or savory or both!
Please send your recipes in NOW! ...and/or no later than Nov 19th! and Thank you!
Notes From the Board
Time Change Survey
Tomorrow we will be sending out a survey to take the temperature of the board on changing the start time of our Sunday services. The survey will last for four weeks, and we will have paper ballots on Sunday at our services.
We are providing three options. The first option is to change the start time of our Sunday service on a temporary basis beginning in January through the end of April to 11:00 AM.
The second option is to change the time of our Sunday service on a temporary basis beginning in January through the end of April to 10:30 AM. The third option is to leave the Sunday service start time at 10:00 AM.
We have been approached by several congregants who think that the later start time might increase attendance and membership. I want to stress that if the congregation is willing to change the start time, that this would be on a temporary basis from January through April. We then would evaluate the results and begin a congregation discussion.
UUCSJS Annual Auction
The Board would like to thank everyone who supported our annual auction. Karen York has reported that the auction generated over $5,000.00 with more to come from the events that are in the future. A huge thank you to Deb Dagavarian and her team for doing an amazing job. Putting on the auction involves a tremendous amount of work, and our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who was involved.

THE NIGHT WATCHMAN by Louise Erdrich
Based on the extraordinary life of National Book Award-winning author Louise Erdrich’s grandfather who worked as a night watchman and carried the fight against Native dispossession from rural North Dakota all the way to Washington D.C., this powerful novel explores themes of love and death with lightness and gravity and unfolds with the elegant prose, sly humor, and depth of feeling of a master craftsman.
Everyone is welcome to join the meeting. Betsy Searight will lead the discussion.

Sunday Services
This Sunday: Having Hope and Thanksgiving
Rev Dr. Richard Speck
Johannes A. Gaertner said, “To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven.” As we approach the holiday of giving thanks, what are we thankful for? Given the state of the world, where do we find hope that is grounded in reality? How do we live gratitude? We will explore these themes this Sunday.
PLEASE NOTE: This service will be in person at UUCSJS and streamed live on our Facebook page. A recording will be available later in the day on our YouTube Channel.
*Masks are currently optional at UUCSJS.
