Good afternoon Firebird Nation Families, Students, and Staff

This week was a busy, but great week at Firebird Nation. Back to School Night was Tuesday. Although the rain tried to damper our evening, we had a great showing of 6th through 8th grade families. We had a number of food trucks for our FMS staff, parents, students, as well as community members to enjoy prior to the evening beginning. Thank you to Ms. Clay, our 7th grade counselor, for arranging all the food trucks. It is always a fun way to start Back to School Night. Thank you to all our teachers for giving our families a glimpse at what our students and families can expect throughout the school year.

Our FMS Fall Athletics meeting was on Tuesday after Back to School night. Again, this was an awesome opportunity for our families and students to meet coaches and get some much needed information. If for some reason you were unable to attend, please reach out either to your student’s coach or Mr. James, our athletic director. Thank you to all our coaches and to Mr. James for working to provide information to all our families.

This week was our Chromebook distribution. Thank you to Mrs. Johnson, our library technician, Mrs. Balk, Mrs. Siemsen, and Mrs. Arnot for all the hard work it takes to get technology into the hands of our students. If your student was absent and did not receive his/her Chromebook, please see Mrs. Johnson in the library commons at the FMS main building.

Students will begin taking the Beginning of the Year (BOY) STAR 360 test this next week. STAR 360 testing will occur throughout the year. This test gives students, teachers, and parents the appropriate data to see how students are progressing. This data is also used to inform instruction across FMS.

There is so much to share about things going on around FMS! FMS looks forward to the partnership with our parents, families, and community as we continue into this new year! Thank you for your support of Falcon Middle School and the commitment we all have to work together and support our students for future success. Together we are better and that is how we all RISE together!

What a fantastic start to the season for our Lady Firebirds! Our A and B teams both secured victories against Janitell, while the C team triumphed over Skyview. Let's keep the momentum going!

*FMS Eligibility Guidelines Update*

Throughout the school year, we will review eligibility for sports, clubs, and other activities. To help your child make the most of these opportunities, remind them to finish and submit their weekly assignments by Monday at 3pm. Assignments after this might not be graded before the grade check. Teachers will update grades in PowerSchool.

The Heads Up Eligibility Check takes place every Friday. Students who are struggling in a course(s) will receive a notification from the Athletic Director regarding their current failing grade status. The Final Eligibility Check is on Tuesday at 10 am. If, unfortunately, your child is deemed ineligible, both the student and parents will receive an email notification from the Athletic Director detailing their ineligible status for the week. Please review the FMS Eligibility Rules below:

FMS Eligibility Guidelines

• Heads up Eligibility Check is every Friday at 10am and Final Eligibility Check is Tuesday at 10am.
• A student-athlete with 1 or more failing grade(s) (F) on Tuesday's Final Eligibility Check will be considered INELIGIBLE.
  
• INELIGIBLE time period starts on Tuesday and continues through the following Tuesday morning. IF athletes are not on the next week’s eligibility report, they will be reinstated.
• A student-athlete that is on the Weekly Ineligibility List may practice with the team, however will not be able to suit-up or dress-out for any competitions or events during the duration of the ineligibility period. Also, no student-athlete who is ineligible will travel with the team.
• If a student-athlete appears on the ineligibility list for a third time in a sports season, they become ineligible for the remainder of the sport’s season and must turn in equipment and uniforms to the coaches as soon as possible.

Thank you for your attention to these details. We are excited to see your child's growth in both their studies and their extracurricular pursuits.
